Buying spins would actually work out for me. I think it works well with people who have jobs, because while the teenagers are playing 16 hour days some of us are working. So buying spins evens out the balance. It makes it more fair for the people who don't have as much time to play. What happens to all these loyal customers when they have to get jobs? I don't know about everyone who plays Runescape but I know I consider it a challenge and a race. So when I dont play because of work, I feel even more like I'm in a race when I play.
Perhaps another reason Jagex decided to allow players to buy spins is to attempt to ensure that a greater percentage of the older players would continue to play. I started playing this game when I was 14, I'm almost 23 now. I have 116 days on Adventurers Log, with 1926 total point and 87.3mil Total XP. I already lost the race. In the time since I signed up, someone else could have 2 accounts with max capes by now. But I worked a lot (thats why the numbers above are the way that they are.) and I found it very easy to enjoy other stuff other than Runescape.
Other players have done the same, its what us esoteric people like to refer to as, having a life, haha. I'm in so much of a race lately to level that I get overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that there is to do, and what I finally realised one day was, Runescape is hard. If I plan on getting a completionist cape, with a job, it will take me well over 10 more years. Thats too long of a wait for me.
Theoretically, if I bought spins for the first time and started using them, then I would subconciously feel that I am catching up to everyone. I don't want to live and breathe Runescape. I just want everything slightly easier, and with the SoF, still in need of a few tweaks, everything seems fine. Kids with rich parents buying spins for them doesnt bother me. I'm just always more understanding than most people. So I don't really have a reason. One day, you just might not care. =\
