Seems to me it causes nothing but problems. You have the GE. You have bonds. Any form of PVP should definitely have limits to what can be exchanged or won.

Why is trading so important that it would cause everyone to immediately quit? What is the upside, why is it important?

Anyone knows? When I think of the bad side of this game, and how it differs from my other gaming experiences, it all funnels down to free trade.

A game can offer systems for players to compete with risk. I don't see why it's such a strong line in the sand.

Wouldn't most bots, scamming and whatever else instantly vanish? Along with the players. :P

Free trade allows items to be exchanged for other items of equivalent (cash or emotional) value - you don't need to liquidate the asset and then make a separate transaction to get what you need/want.

Free trade also allows you to decide who gets the benefit of your exchange - you can sell to friends at a discount, make sure your clan mates get the items/equipment they need etc.

Free trade also allows items to be lent to friends more flexibly than the loan system, and allows groups to share resources/items between them.

We lost free trade once before.

Players quit because of it.

Bots stayed.

Scamming increased.

Given the evidence that removal of free trade is inherently bad for RuneScape, I doubt we'll ever see it happen again.

If it's a matter of helping out friends or clan mates, that can be done directly by playing with them. Or they could make a gift system, I think they already have that with bond membership codes.

I remember the vote to return free trade, and it was mostly about supporting the pkers. In RS3 is that even a thing? What am I supporting now? Scammers?

They tried a variety of PVP systems, like the deal where you put a summoning pouch in inventory and got extra rewards. If people are farming your system just because they can, that's not good.

The bigger thing is players shouldn't be able to win or lose BILLIONS. My vision for PVP is you make your own PVP gear and that's the risk. Everyone has the same equipment, it's not a bidding war.

Another question I have is how does PVP compare to something like poker games. Players can lose it all against someone who is cheating PVP, but there is no way to cheat in poker.

Why is it OK for someone to gain billions from another player, but it's not OK to win a few million at Texas Hold'em.

There are plenty of simulated casino games out there based on MTX, so I don't see any difference in risking game gold. Is there a difference? Are there actual rules to prevent it? IDK.

This is a bit annoying. I looked up a game that I know has online poker as part of it, and they say it is restricted by location.

So it's OK for some users, but not everyone.

I'm not saying to add poker specifically, just as an example. But it seems to be a no-go. Some day the world will catch up. :P

IMO the gaming industry should fight for poker. Not specifically, but the concept. (Bingo, etc.) To me it is EXACTLY the same as other PVP.

It's a basic concept in gaming, and if the stakes are limited I don't see the harm. Many people want to win, they want to compete and it's a great opportunity for social interaction.

I'm not sure why it's a regional thing, and it blows my mind that so many people are lacking in freedom.

There is a distinct difference between gaming and gambling.

Jagex will never be able to put gambling into their games as this will prohibit the entire game from many locations around the world.

Like I said before, scamming was far more prevalent during the trade restriction period than it has been during free trade. I honestly don't see where you're going with this post.

I remember back in the day, there were plenty of 'companies'. The so called mining/smithing companies. You give ores/bars in order to recieve weapons and armour.

Same goes for nature running and law running. A person stood by the nature or law altar, other people would give essence and the person traded back nature runes or law runes.

Or making jewelry or potions.

All of these don't excist anymore. The removal of free trade back in 2007 was a final blow for many of these people.

Yes, we have the assist system. But that goes for a max XP per day.

I do not want the free trade to be removed again. And I believe many other people do not want it either.
