Hello,

Is anyone else seeing an issue where user signatures are clipped near the bottom of each post? I thought it was only me when I edited my signature last night for the first time. I noticed today, however, that the issue seems to affect the display of other users' signatures in addition to mine.

I'm using Firefox on Windows 10 and have no add-ons enabled, if that makes any difference.

Hey there,

I think I have an idea of what you're talking about, but just to be sure - can you post a screen shot of the issue you're seeing?

If it's one thing I'm thinking of, the signature area of our posts have a maximum height limit and will only display about 3 lines of text.

If it's the other thing I'm thinking of, there is a known issue (typically with Chromium-based browsers) which can occasionally cause an issue where the first post on any page of a multi-page thread can appear to 'overlap' with the second post.

Hey, thanks for your quick response. After looking once more, I think the height limit was the issue. I changed my signature again as an experiment, and the first three lines appeared normally. It was only the fourth line that fell through an invisible floor. I haven’t used Imgur before and wasn’t sure how to post a screenshot without using that site, but otherwise I would have.

I saw another user who had at least four lines in his signature, and the same problem occurred. The first three lines were fine, but the fourth line could not be deciphered.

I’d like to leave this thread open for now in case there are others who are unaware of the height limit.

Second line:
Changed your mind?


Third line:
Watch your back!


Fourth line:
[heart attack]

Yes, that sounds about right. This is by design, though admittedly it isn't entirely clear in the signature composition area that this "restriction" exists.

Before the signature system was implemented, users would have to save their desired signature (in a notepad document on their computer, for example) and paste it in to the end of every post manually. At that time, there was a forum rule that signatures should only be about 2-3 lines high to keep posts looking orderly (and avoid unnecessary vertical post stretching).

When the signature system was released, it was designed with that guideline in mind and so signatures longer than about 3 lines will simply be "cut off".
