Eh. Probably the very first encounters were when I was doing Heroes quest (around the end of 2005 - beginning of 2006)
Found a partner in about 30 seconds after leaving a message that I need a member from Pheonix gang (if I recall correctly, we even had 2 sticky threads for that at that time, one for Black Arm members, one for Pheonix Gang, didn't we

That was the time I started running nature runes through abyss, and forums were one of the easiest place to find a buyer for your nats and was lil bit easier to obtain pure essence, though at that time I used to mine essence myself, most of the times.
Later on, some suggestions to have a marketplace for player items appeared, where we could trade our created stuff when being offline from the game - was criticised heavily due to some other games having some marketplaces where you could trade your items when not being in a game. "It's not <that and that> game, it's RuneScape, we do not need this!" - that's the criticism these suggestions received. Surprise surprise, after few years that idea came into practise as Grand Exchange - must admit, extremely great job done there! All the trade limits are doing well to prevent market's monopolization.
After that, my activity reduced a little bit, used to pop by to read Recent/Future game updates to have a little bit of knowledge of what is happening. Was happily surprised when I saw few new quests released for f2pers as well as 2 new skills, one being available for f2p too - Dungeoneering. Looked something amazing and still looks. In 05's, it was hard to believe that any additional game content could be offered for f2p players. Now - it happens quite regularly what was a nice change in Jagex approach towards players.
Was nice to read about others first experience within forums!
