I think after a year or 2 of playing was when I finally discovered the forums. I knew nothing about it until 2006 maybe early 2007. I finally decided that I wanted to buy items and sell items, however, I was having a hard time. Back then, there were certain worlds that people went to buy, sell, and trade things, so one of my friends had mentioned going on the RS forums, which I assumed was a completely different website. I found the forums and had a wonderful experience, decided to do a little more exploring in the forums because I actually wanted to get more engaged with the community, and since then I've been enjoying it.

I'm an f2p since the very beginning (2005), and as per Jagex announcement (https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/free-player-forum-access) dated April 9, 2009 this board accepted f2p with enough skill levels as forumers as well. And like any open book, we can say the rest is history.

But the reality is I'm already used to the forums, and already had around 15,000+ posts even before the RSOF became f2p. This is because I was already a member of the silver team three years prior. I already built a profile of 15k posts exclusively in the silver team's section of RSOF. So that April 9, 2009 was an expansion of my forum world so to speak. There was not much of a learning curve, as I'm already familiar with this environment before going public.

Towards the end of 2012, I decided to start posting on the forum games because they looked fun. I think my first post was on a counting game. Shortly after, I took an interest in signature art. I really miss how active the forums were back then, and that wasn't even during the peak years. Now I'm a stressed uni student woo.

2009 / 2010, when F2P users were able to post. I was really excited to create a thread for my clan... in fact, I created 3 (Clan Home, Recruitment and Events).
More to maintain than I expected, but luckily had some help from our clan members.

This was also in time for the Triumvirate (Judges, Lords, Reavers if anyone remembers?).

Before being able to post, it was still a great resource for events and discussions around updates.

Yea! I remember you could sign up individually or via a clan.

You could win points for your faction through challenges.
The variety was really good... everything from debate challenges to RS outfits / costume events.

Yep there's a lot of sections to choose from but people usually find one or two that they like the most, or feel the most comfortable in.
