Something weird happened when I logged out last night. I got the "Are you a bot" screen with the added message that it was taking longer than usual. Then it vanished and I was logged out without the pictures appearing.
The captcha still going strong.... First my account, then on forums. Same computer, location, and password. But it needs to make sure it doesnt have the wrong person.......

And what benefit will bots do in the website / forums anyway?
The captcha is on secure.runescape.com as a whole subdomain, so it can affect any pages on it. It's configured for the login page mainly (but is on some other pages too), which is not to stop bots from using any service specifically...but to stop overload on the service itself.
Since cloudflare is on the subdomain as a whole, depending on the configuration, it can appear (theoretically) on any page on that subdomain if it fits the configuration pattern jagex made.
I have noticed that when the web login is down, the main game login is down also, and vice versa...so it looks like a prevention to stop the login service from being knocked offline from DDOS attacks.
Can I turn in a paper without citing all sources?

just logged in for first time without a captcha in weeks
Wondering whether it's a miracle or not, but I just got into the forums without captcha for the first time in weeks also! Granted, I did log in via clicking the message centre in the lobby like I used to, so I could avoid having to enter authenticator every single time.
Eh I was hopeful.... back to selecting buses and boats...

Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.

I've found that it's more likely to pass me after 2 puzzles if I let the second puzzle idle for about 10 seconds before clicking submit. If I try to click the right tiles and submit ASAP, it thinks I'm a robot and asks me to complete several extra puzzles.

Any CAPTCHA challenges are not 'we need help to see what trucks look like' but 'this specific request is a little unusual - lets ask them to click the trucks to be sure its a legitimate request'"-Mod Lyon Page 5 post 1

Can we get a 2nd opinion on this?
I'm not being
continually
challenged. I realise they won't give details about what triggers captcha but its annoying when it happens. I've gone a couple of weeks with no captcha then I'll have a day or two where it happens every single time. Yesterday I had them a couple of times but not every time logging in and out, today I logged in with no captcha. I haven't altered any browser settings or done anything different so I'm puzzled why it happens sometimes and not others. *sigh*
