Nope - as part of this change we have had to make changes to the forum censor. We will be watching carefully in the next few weeks of course to see if this becomes an issue.

I did make a report. If that kind of language is considered okay now, then my interest in the forums just dropped dramatically. O_o

Loving the positive feedback so for all.

Just a gentle reminder we do listen - we just cannot work on everything all the time ;)

Maybe they should allot more time for you guys to work on the forums. I'm sure you're aware the number of active users is consistently decreasing on the forums while those in-game doesn't seem to be showing a similar trend. At the moment, it says we have ~30 on the forums, 60k in game and ~850 on the RS subreddit. When you see such an imbalance between external and internal, you have to be aware that the forums are dying because of something being done or not being done.

To keep this from being too lengthy, I think it comes down to 3 simple things:
1. Jmod interaction. Reddit gets FAR more than the RSOF, especially when it comes to addressing new/future updates and the like.
2. Restrictions. This was a step towards helping with that, but the RSOF are both stricter on posting and moderation than Reddit.
3. Incentive. Redditors are obsessed with upvotes. I'm not saying that the RSOF are at fault for not implementing something like that, but that the forums have the opportunity to offer incentives that Reddit can't. Perhaps something like earning points from upvotes on the forum (with restrictions: upvotes from friends having a weighted lower value, must be mems with X total to upvote, etc.) and then at certain point marks you would unlock cosmetics or you could use the points to purchase cosmetics. Something like that, just a rough example. Spamming for points would be the opposite of efficient due to the downvotes they'd receive.

Without something to turn it around, efforts improving the forums will be wasted time due to the lack of users, which I think has already heavily played a role in how slowly updates are implemented for the forums.

It's some fair points - I think a better use would be pushing to get RS3 forums responsive so easier to access on mobiles. Also possibly giving JMODs options to logon outside the office. I think this would address some of the more desperate problem areas. Voting is a tough one - it can really swing two ways and I think if we put prizes or rewards on it it would just be abused. It's an interesting observation though...

^ Please note that the above are just ideas at this time

Excessive swearing likely won't be allowed as it would technically fall under spam.

Directing said swearing at someone would fall under attacking another forumer.

I wouldn't worry *too* much about it.

Although Jmod interaction shouldn't have to be limited to your own time, it would be nice if you had equal opportunity to be on the official forums as you can on Reddit. I had presented before that the simplest tweak to allow this would be to have secondary Jmod accounts. They'd essentially be Fmod accounts with gold backgrounds, rather than "real" Jmod accounts. So even if the account got hijacked, at worst, someone would go on a locking spree (the same threat that exists for an Fmod account).

As for mobile: more and more people are glued to their phones outside of being near a computer, so it certainly would be useful to have at least the forums more easily accessible that way. As Reddit has proven: you don't need to do a full-blown fancy forum for mobile users; a simplistic, easy to read format is all that'd really be required. At the same time, RS is still a computer game. Even without going mobile, you could likely tap some of that 60k currently online by causing them to want to visit the forums.

When it comes to incentives of any type, there's always the risk of abuse. I've seen how people get for upvotes despite the lack of real value to them. Undeniably, it would increase forum traffic. Would some of it be less than constructive? Certainly, but you'd also likely get far more constructive discussions than we currently see.
