2) Something has happened between you two and you're trying to apologise for something which has gone on.

Np I'll post more when I think of some.
Got one more atm, :S it's like:
I'm sorry about that :S meaning like worried I guess it's hard to describe but I use that face quite often in conversations.

EDIT: Your meaning also works but Tom's is a more likely scenario.
