I always found it interesting how different smiley faces could influence a different meaning to a sentence. The examples given previously are great. :)

I find it interesting as well. There have been at least 2 active thread discussions going on, which are/were not about smiley faces at all, but the use of smiley faces and how they are perceived became a subtopic that surfaces from time to time.

I think smiley faces are basically a substitute for the nonverbal cues we use in face-to-face communication. Given the impact of nonverbal cues/body language, I guess it isn't such a surprise that use of emoticons can significantly impact us as well.

but I think your creative choice does appropriately describes :| in the context given, S euss. :)

When creating the quiz, I had to ask a friend what she thought :| meant as I was unsure. We came up with puzzled and confused .

I've always used smiley's to display my emotion in a sentence and it always gets my point across.
Unfortunately I had no clue what was going on and read all the answers already or I would have played :( (disappointed)

:3 -- Being emoticon-challenged, I don't know what sentiment or feeling goes with this one. When I've asked others, I've been told cute face or cute baby animal. So is the person making a cute face? and what kind of emotion goes with making a cute face?

I'm thinking of adding to the emoticon list on the first page, but I had questions first.
