If you're going to go with responsive, you could go with dynamic as well, and let users utilize the space with optional features, such as sidebars.

Hmmm - really we should be looking to improve the nav so there is no need for clunky additional togglable navigation on the side. Truth be told everyone would want different types of side navs that so we really could not implement that. Realistically people would only be happy scripting their own ones.

Variety is the spice of life. ^_^

Many CMS implement optional sidebars/headers/footers that can be customized. If done properly, it can work quite well.

That's always an option. ;)

In my opinion, you guys need to be more generous with the cookies. Give us more options, give us more cookies. ;)

RuneScape used to have a fixed interface. Then along came NIS, and it allowed us to customize our experience exactly the way we wanted to. That same concept, can be applied to the website as well. The more you allow your users to customize, the more they will enjoy their experience.

It's an interesting view point - I was chatting to a couple of players at RuneFest about a similar concept and yes it did work fantastically in the game. It is that balance though; between customisation and overall control of our content.

I cannot say its something I see us doing really. We tried it with those hex-box buttons on the community page on RS3 launch but the reality was nobody bothered setting them. I would imagine whilst a small minority might enjoy customisable side bars the vast majority would similarly not use them. And thus our time would be better spent elsewhere :)

I vaguely remember something on the homepage that I could set, and I remember thinking to myself "Interesting, although, I doubt many people will make use of it, since it's on the homepage. Most people will not notice it and click the Play Now button". Having custom settings is good, but, they have to be in the right place.

One option would be to put as little work into it as possible. Come up with some snazzy name (like RuneWidget), and put an empty container as a sidebar, with only a button to edit the container's HTML content. Then save the html content in the Local Storage, and display it in the container when the page is loaded. You won't have to come up with any widgets to put in the RuneWidget, the RuneScape community will do that itself, and share their widgets with everyone else.

There are a lot of clever minds within the RuneScape community. I bet they would surprise you with all kinds of great widgets. ;)

Adv log is like painting over a crack. The crack is still there, but it looks better for a while.

In other words it won't be next year.

What do you think we can improve on it? (adv log)

Apart from the loading time I personally had no problems with it. Like a lot of things the features that should have been included from the start are done better by other sites.

Actually I dislikd the splitting of the original into groups such as artisan etc, no need for it other than to increase the time it took for me to look at certain skills.

The main opportunity that was missed was xp tracking/group tracking.

Time and time again the stable door is shut but sadly the horses have already bolted.

Just read that clan monthly hi score thread... or we can use runeclan (for clan xp anyway).

So specifically what XP tracking are you looking for that we do not offer?

We have yet to get to the clan pages - but in order to bring back the horses we need the feedback of what you want us to add :)

Unless you can provide data going back to account creation it won't be worthwhile for me, but newer players would no doubt find it useful

An offsite I use for tracking has my xp tracked back to 2008 (first time I used it). Very interesting to look at although seeing how my ranks have fallen and fallen over the years is a bit :(

Lots of clans have skilling competitions for a week/month/year.

If you could make it so certain rank and above can set up a group to track xp for a specific skill as well as overall xp for a certain period of time it would save a lot of hassle especially if it uses the members of the clan rather than adding them manually. If it can handle name changes even better.

If that hasn't been suggested umpteen times I'll be amazed btw.

Clan page wise:
Generic web forums are probably the best you can do (invisionboard-esque).

Rules similar to the hlf regarding what content can be posted ideally, won't hold my breath on that one as I understand the need to monitor content.

If the rules are similar to the forum rules it would be a waste of time for many clans as a lot of stuff posted would break the rules: links, pictures etc etc

How about making the horses come back by way of removing the competition! Of course you'd get some hate... :D
