Yeah that's what I'm talking about; hiding threads created by them as well.
Then, the way I see it there's no reason not to. With the provisions I offered, there would be no difference in implementing said system or just "closing your eyes and ignoring them yourself" because their content is only being hidden from the ignoring party/ies.

Once again this would go against the whole discussion aspect of the forums.
So no, this shouldnt happen as the forums are meant to be more than just a place of yes-men.

I'd support this. Would be fair and the person ignored could still discuss the topic even if they are ignored.
^ Then the person who has been ignored by an person should be able to scroll over that person's profile pic and see a button that says this person is ignoring you, thus ppl know if a discussion can't be held in full.
If a person is being ignore, like shown in the pic, then the person who has them ignored wont get any further context from them even if they are furthering the discussion.
Any way you slice this, it just doesnt end well and is not needed.
If ppl want something like this just stick to whatever websites have it.
If you want to discuss things here you have to be ready to deal with ppl you just dont like, just like you have to IRL.
I mean theres loads of ppl here who i dislike with a bloody passion yet here i am not asking for this as i have the ability to ignore.
As long as the block feature only works for the person utilizing it, I do not see a problem with this. If I were to block Y person, then that means that anything they post -- either a whole thread or a simply post within a thread -- would come out hidden to me, just like Spearmint30 mentioned
here
. This would allow the block feature to work as intended instead of hindering the blocked person's ability to freely engage in other threads around the Forums.
Let's say I create a thread here in Website and Forums. If I have Y person blocked, then they would be able to participate on this thread of mine but their contents would simply be hidden to me and not to other people, unless, of course, Y person is also on their blocked list. This would permit such players to continue as normal without noticing that they have been blocked by me and would keep on to use the Forums as intended. I wholeheartedly believe that this wouldn't present a problem because nobody would notice, unless you explicitly tell them that they have been blocked (no reason to divulge this, obviously).
Now, the core issue that I see with the implementation of such a feature is the archaic state of these RuneScape Official Forums. They have been neglected for years because their main focus is somewhere else -- See Mod Lyon's response here:
Forum Updates
-- and without proper attention, a feature like the one suggested here wouldn't work. The Forums have to be updated first and many other things have to be overhauled before we can block users.
All in all, I am sure most people would really enjoy the ability to ignore someone else here on the Forums, especially those pesky players that never stop; however, without proper willingness, attention, time and dedication from Jagex, these Forums will stay deserted for eons to come. They are still "alive" thanks to long-time users that never cease to leave
.
The biggest problem I see with the way I suggested it is: what if someone else that you're not ignoring quotes the post of the person you are ignoring? The way quoting works, if I quote someone, the contents of that quoted post is now inherently my content (the same as if i just copy and paste the content into my post) and if you're not ignoring me, you will see the content. All the quote tag does is include an ID to let the system conveniently link to the post and show who said it without having to include a link or name ourselves.
Given that, there is really no way to
guarantee
that you won't see someone's content.

Hmmm. Good point. I never thought of that. I guess if there is a way to tweak that to include the warning that the message being quoted is hidden/blocked from that specific person's point of view? If it's even possible, given the spaghetti code used to write these Forums.
