I find these types of discussion threads confusing. You try to go through the comments about the original idea, but when there's a sub thread towards the top which is unrelated but has many replies you end up having to scroll a long way to get out of it. To make things worse, sub-sub-sub-sub-etc threads make the unrelated topic even longer.

If there is discussion to be had on a different enough topic, it should be made in an entirely new thread.

If there is discussion to be had on the OP topic, then it does not need to go into a sub-thread.
