I just thought that we would be far better off (understandingly) if we didn't have these wars. I know this sounds easily understandable, but i mean in a tremendous way. I feel like we are thrown years or even decades back. I feel like the nowadays 2010's years could have been the 1970's without the wars and that the future years, for example the 2030's could have already been in the 2000s. *

Most of the technology we have today was result of military engineering. Such as the internet, GPS, Duct Tape, Jeep, Computers and microwaves and many of the medicines you use on a daily basis.

I'd say science being suppressed by religion in the very early centuries had more of a toll on where we are now and where we "could have been."
Wattson main btw.

It was thanks to World War 2 we have radar.

The british had the blueprints for radar and if United States never entered the war, the Nazis may have easily overrun England and the blueprints for radar may have been lost (or utilized by the Nazis.)

Due to the fact that United States essentially shifted the entire country to war production, British decided it was best to give the blue prints to United States so US's factories can begin producing them in what is known as the Tizard Mission.

Likewise could also say that if the war was different such as if United States never entered world war, the technology advancement and new mass production techniques may have never been invented.

On top of that, if British were lost to Germany, then all the intellectual power the British had would be neutralized or stolen. Sometimes a war is necessary to prevent loss of intellectual power on a mass scale.

I live in the part of Belgium that was bombed heavily and we have a national service for deactivating and transporting WW bombs. They find bombs in my region daily (100y later).
This is the impact I'm having today. Other than my grandparents not tolerating any germans and myself needing 5 years (after I first realised they aren't evil) to not hate them.
Economically: After the world war, we had a baby-boom and now these are all retiring and fucking up our economy. We youngsters are doomed to work a lifetime to pay all retirement funds:/

Don't have much time to respond to this, but military history is like my #1 hobby (apart from RS, of course ^_^ ). It's false (sorry for not inviting debate on this point, it's just almost impractical to argue) to say that society would be more advanced if the WWs didn't happen and/or conflicts (military or ideological) didn't happen. So much (and I mean SO MUCH) technology that we take for granted these days are the direct result of military innovation. Some things were originally weapons, adapted years later by civilian scientists to better society. Other things were meant to be weapons but turned out to be a flop, so were passed to civilian hands very quickly, and developed that way so the military wouldn't have to waste more money on it. Other things still were developed not as a means of hurting anyone else, but to win an ideological war (space race between USA/USSR is the most used example, but there are others), and filtered down through society. Other things still were found completely by accident!

Really interesting topic that I look forward to reading/debating on (if it's allowed in these forums).

This basically. Wars destroys economies(except in rare occasions), but accelerates technological advances.

Yes, but it's also due to WW2 that we have the A-bomb and 2 Japanese cities were obliterated.

I think there's a lot of potential for nuclear power but, you know, at what cost?
