War actually drives a nation's economy and fuels technological advances to '1-up' the other country.
Take for example medicine; many unethical experiments performed by Nazi doctors on human subjects revealed a lot of information about the human body that would have otherwise been hard to obtain, despite the unethical manner in which that information was obtained. Additionally - this also drove medical ethics to be further looked into, as well as human rights laws.
Also, if it wasn't for war, the internet would never have become a public thing when it did - the internet was used and invented by the military almost exclusively. Without wars, the internet wouldn't have become as streamlined as it did.
These are just a few examples of the advancements that came out of our past world wars.
