I've tried it out a little bit, and I do like it but then again I also like Skype and TS. I can see advantages to each one, but I've found Discord to be pretty good during the handful of times I've tried it. :)

Discord is superior to both.
And Discord isn't even finalized yet.

This really says something about the competence of the Skype and TS devs, does it?

Yet, people on RS still insist on using either or both over Discord for some reason, when every other gaming/misc community I'm a part of has pretty much shifted to Discord. Why is this?

Yeah Discord is so much better than TS/Skype - I honestly can't think of one thing that Discord doesn't do better.
