And I've just got back from the darkest skies in France as well :( saw a few meteors while I was there and dabbled in a bit of astrophotography.

First attempt at the milkyway and I'm happy enough with it.

In fact on the right hand side of that image and near the middle there is a faint line from a meteor or a satellite :P

Stunning!

For a first attempt you've got some really good results, I hope you keep at it!

Thanks for sharing you photos, makes me want to give it a try :)

Saw a few small ones last night and one really good one. If I didn't have to get up I'd have stayed up a lot longer and taken more photos.

I had the camera taking 30s exposures while I was watching and got one small one for my efforts.

We went to the farm last night and quickly improvised a dinner on the terrace, threw some blankets and pillows on the ground and camped out there for the rest of the night :)

I use a Nikon d610 + Samyang 14mm lens and a tripod. Only had the camera + lens a shot while so still getting to grips with it.

Ideally you want a camera that you can set the exposure manually.
