Why are they always red though? Why not another colour?

The word colour reminded me of another. Why do americans spell colour without the U? American English is a contradiction in terms.

That is how colour is spelt in English, the language you speak and write in. American English is about as legit as Pig Latin as a genuine language.

You don't pronounce colour CULL-OR do you? Your pronounce its CULL-UR i bet, so if anything the o is not needed.
