This quiz is extremely one-sided rather than objective and actually worth anything.

Never the less I scored a fancy 51/100.

no this is a work of elite science and the best minds were put into thinking up this survey. Please check your privilege before making fun of feminists.

its based purely on the uk isnt it? that might be why americans or other nationalitys have trouble

I'm a white person in a predominantly white country and I don't feel very privileged when a lesser qualified person than me gets a job purely because they're black or female in the name of affirmative action (discrimination).

such thoughts are discrimination, you can't be racist towards a white person because clearly they deserve it.

You live with 17 out of 100 points of privilege.

You’re underprivileged. The world is not a fair or ideal place and you know that because you grew up with several identities that the world is not kind to. You had a lot of challenges to overcome simply to get on a level playing field with most people in the world. It is not your job to educate the world about its injustices, but if you choose to, go ahead and send them this quiz. Hopefully it will help.

I felt weird ticking some of the boxes and leaving some blank. They just never applied to me. I've never flown internationally, so of course I was never called to a 'secondary passport screening line'. I don't own a passport and I don't need one. =/ 23 200ms. 'Privilege' is a bad word for the concept. I think 'advantage' is better. In a lot of situations, it is indeed to a person's advantage to be straight, white, male and without disability, and not to be any or all of those things confers a comparative disadvantage.

On the other hand, of course there are situations where to be straight or white or male or without disability confers a comparative disadvantage, which is why the quiz not only gives options such as 'I am male' but also (I can't remember the exact phrasing), 'I have missed out on job opportunities because of my gender'. If you're a man and it's been to your disadvantage in particular circumstances, the quiz does allow you to say so.

The difference between discrimination against the 'default' group and 'others', though, is that discrimination against 'others' is often embedded in societal norms, and is therefore invisible. People who don't experience it themselves don't even see it, and believe it doesn't happen.

For example, a lot of men think that the sexes are now completely equal; most women would attest that there are still many disadvantages to being a woman compared with being a man. So-called affirmative action is often brought up to show that men are now being unfairly discriminated against, and if you're a man and believe that has happened to you, I can't dispute it seeing I wasn't there.

But that doesn't take into account all the disadvantages of being a woman in our society that aren't related at all to employment access, and haven't changed significantly. If you're reading this and saying 'Balderdash, there aren't any' - well, that's what 'privilege' means, or 'advantage' as I would rather say. It doesn't happen to you, so you don't perceive that it happens to anybody, or you think that when it does happen to someone, it's an isolated incident and not a systemic problem.

And the same thing applies to non-'default' race, sexuality, gender identity, disability status etc. There are a few situations where it's advantageous to have one or more of those traits, but there are still far more where it's not.

And if you haven't seen any evidence of that, it almost certainly means you're not one of those people; in other words, you have an advantage you're not conscious of.

"Check your privilege" is a particularly obnoxious way to say "become aware of the advantages you have that you usually don't realise are there", but that's what it's supposed to bring about. "Realise your comparative advantage".

Pretty much everything that you said above is baseless since you never gave any examples about any certain characteristic being a negative traight

I fail to see how any of the above would advantage you

would love to hear some examples

so easy for someone to use that as an excuse, "you don't see any prroblems? well that's because you have this invisible advantage cuz it's clearly there"
