Left or right menu position I can do, but the icon will always be in the top right. So it may feel odd clicking on the far right to open a menu on the far left. The mouse cursor wont snap to the menu so it'll be a bit of jumping around. But that's not a problem to make optional.
Displaying all at once brings a few issues. Firstly you could easily end up with multiple scroll bars on the one interface (really bad UI design). There are some other things too as the behaviour within each of the tabs is not the same, this makes things counter intuitive and messy when all displayed together. There are some big advantages (from a code perspective) not displaying everything at once, and it'll require (in part) writing two bookmark systems). I really don't want to right two different interfaces if I can help it.
I need a one size fits all system, and now more than ever I need things separate. The watch list needs some extra space because I hope to include (optional) notifications in that tab.
Also I need the luxury of extra space in the tabs. If the bookmark system's features grow during development (that usually happens) I need to be able to accommodate that. Right now there are lots of unknowns.
I realise some of us have lots of screen real-estate. That screenie in my last post is on the lowest res monitor I have (been lots of linkify testing on that screen). Tbh my biggest issue is making sure low res and/or small browser windows work.
I guess what I'm saying is the tabs give me room to grow, work on all screen sizes and help keep things tidy (though tidy is subjective). Really not going to commit on this one, just too early and depending on how things get built into the system could mean it becomes impossible later.
I will keep this in mind though and give it some more thought
But....
