More than 10,000 people have died from Covid-19 as of today.
I predict that in 2 months time, when this probably is still ongoing and more than 10 million people have been infected that rioting and looting will take place. Which will worsen the crisis even further.
Fear makes people reckless and stupid.
Let's hope it doesn't get that far and that people are listening to their local governments and maintaining good sanitation and hygiene as well as social distancing and those who are feeling unwell are isolating themselves for a minimum of 2 weeks.
I don't doubt it will get that bad.
Some supermarkets reserved the first hour of shopping (6-7am) for those over 70 yrs old.
Hordes of other people turned up and pushed their way in, attacking staff, there was civil unrest at various sites and Police had to attend.
The earliest slot I can get for a Home Delivery of food is 5th April but most things cannot be purchased as they are already out of stock due to pre-booking. People are going to get desperate especially if they've got kids to feed.
20,000 military personnel are on standby ostensibly to 'help out' with logistics, temporary hospitals etc. but also - rather telling - to assist the Police Force. The shit is going to hit the fan here, big time, very soon and everyone knows it.

Unfortunately, they won't listen. It's going to take the government enforcing shutdowns, house-stays and all that to get things more controlled. Trusting people will listen is dangerous because many people don't. There's still too many people out there that think this is just some game, or overblown.
Soon enough, deaths will occur not as a result of being infected with COVID-19, but because of what it's causing to happen. It seems like it gets worse ever so slowly each day.
This crisis isn't going to go away anytime soon. Things will get worse before they get better. I think this will last until at least 2021, unless a miracle happens and we get an effective cure/treatment to control COVID-19's impact.
.
Chloroquine, an old anti-malaria drug, has been promising in combating Covid-19. So that's at least some good news, and I hope pretty much every drug company is ramping up production of Chloroquine.
It's no vaccine, but offers at least some alleviation of the disease.

I've been seeing reports of that. Hopefully something good comes from it.

I read about the Chloroquine too. One country (can't remember which one) has been combining it with one of the older-generation HIV drugs and it seems to be having very encouraging results.
