And that is why different progression paths would've been a great thing. You can be a quester, a skiller, a fighter, someone who engages with the tons and tons of minigames, d&ds and other activities this game has to offer or somebody who just likes to explore the world. Of course those paths sometimes overlap with one another - obviously mostly questing and skilling, but also other things in some fairly limited fashion.

And believe it or not - some players are interested in going down all paths at once by collecting everything they could and finishing everything they can - otherwise nobody would pursue things like golden reaper, golden praesul, ultimate slayer or master of clues - or also more trivial stuff like doing the same thing over and over again they did to reach level 99 for reaching virtual 120s or 200m experience, no matter how insanely poor the experience rates might be for that point. As different as they are, all of those things have in common, that certainly not everybody would even bother to actively pursuing them.

Be more extreme - even OS players do this, despite their collection log doesn't even offer the option to show others what you already have done - except when they come to your POH and check it out there.

The issue with the comp cape was you were forced to comp, since you lost out on lots of things if you hadn't had the comp cape, so obviously not everyone who had it was actually interested in getting it - at least this got fixed with their mostly scrapped revamp. But now - you won't get it you don't want it.

Comp should of never been the ultimate combat cape. Period. That was where the game went wrong. What happened was updates revolved around the stupid cape. People were cheating to maintain it. So it lost whatever notoriety it was supposed to have. Some have said it is just a cosmetic. Well that should be its job only. Be a cosmetic to show somebody goes all avenues. But don't make it a brag must have cape. Then it becomes a big nothing.

OSRS does not have a Comp Cape. It has a Master Quest, Master Song and Master Mini Quest. It just has Max displaying 99 in all skills. This was what should of been done in main game. As for a master combat cape, that is Infernal Cape. Which was once the Fire Cape. But Fire Cape became too easy. Once the combat capes become too easy, the game just needs to make greater challenges. I think the format of Dungeoneering was awesome. Make tougher and tougher raids. Which require skilling.

120 in all skills as a sort of trimmed max cape would be good to see

It is about time there is a Max Cape with particles. It was only because of Comp, it never had a trim version. Oh and the stupid V in the back of Comp is saying person obtained 120 Dungeoneering. Which means nothing today. Sorry for all my rants about Comp. But I got so sick of the player attitude caused by the cape. Believe it ruined the game.

Comp is solely a cosmetic variation of the max cape for 3 years now - albeit not even one you should use since it would increase your death costs over max - max certainly still is worth to get, considering it unlocks three skill cape perks on any cape and offers by itself the second best hybrid stats you could get. But I guess, that's why this cape also offers a free cosmetic overrides, while max does not so. But other than that, the kiln capes were slighly better in their individual styles than max/comp, but the zuk capes significantly outclass them - if you beat HM even in all three styles at once.

OS would have gotten a comp cape if they hadn't seen the tons and tons of issues this cape has caused in RS2 and especially RS3 later on. But OS went a different route anyway - while their max cape offers access to all skill cape perks at once (albeit OS in here again only has a few really worth to get in the first place), it's basically useless for combat, since it doesn't have relevant combat stats. I doubt a comp cape would've been much better for that aspect. And that's better for that matter - OS has a much, much slower progression anyway - but due to comp we had been locked on our best in slot capes for over 10 years. Zuk certainly was a refresher for that matter.

But if we actually would get a virtual max cape in RS3 you can fairly surely assume it won't be the current max with trim/particles. It will either be something entirely new or some upgraded alteration, which itself will unlock its particles by (trimmed) comping again.

I mean - LegendsArts posted this idea a couple of years ago: https://i.imgur.com/WKhCBhq.jpg - something like this certainly would be something I'd look forward to get, rather than yet another variation of some 11 year old cape. And yeah seeing another cape of distinction - while the original veteran capes were based on the same item, the 15 and 20 year variants had had new designs - for the better or worse.

Since I am really not crazy about the new cape designs on RS3, I would prefer just having a MAX with particles. Btw, my favorite cape is actually Infernal. Always loved the flame animation of fire cape. Now that is a design from back in 2005. It is still awesome. I prefer the regular Infernal look over Max Infernal too. I love the Mage Imbued God Capes too.
