Hmm I thought Mod Jack and I shared the same view, but I do see some notable differences now, which in my opinion will lead to the completionist issue persisting even if any of his proposed changes are made.

The issue is that regardless of all of his suggestions, the outcome will still have one cape that is better than all others and requires one to participate in nearly all of runescape its content. The fact that this cape is superior to other capes alone, regardless of the stats and utility, is enough for people to have a mentality to rush through content they dislike in pursuit of the ‘ultimate cape’ (look no further than how people rush the trimmed completionist cape despite the lack of clear stat benefits). This is the core problem.

What we need is cape diversity with no clear cape that is best. Mod Jack talks about “lesser” capes, which in my opinion is just the wrong approach. Instead these capes should all be equal, but attained by completing a different area of the game, thereby giving the player choice on which cape suits him/her best. This also means requirements can be made more difficult since they should now fall within the preferences of the person pursuing them. Something can be said about the pvm cape being more deserving of better stats due to it involving combat, but I would again hate it if everyone would flock to that cape just because it is “better” than the others.

The question is though if this solution of the problem will be accepted by the community; I have high suspicions people are so attached to the current system, despite its clear flaws, that we will see no actual change. Like I said, Mod Jack, while in part seeing the problem, does not offer the true solution. Yet even this is met with a lot of resistance.
Mod Jack suggesting to add more tiers to the completionist cape (up to 200m in all skills) actually scares me, for it will only further encourage unhealthy gameplay…

Poll looks good, but I am sorta getting the feeling this isn't a poll that should be open to anybody with just a membership to be honest.
Mod Jack has said it'll only be open to those who have a completionist cape unlocked.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.

Doesn't matter. Nobody truly complained to this scale until Reaper. The people complaining couldn't care less about the stats on the cape...they don't even like PvM why would stats matter to them?

The only thing that matters is that it's the highest tiered cape regardless of what it does and looks good. It could be fully cosmetic and as long as it simply looks more epic than the others, people will complain and ask for removal of what's blocking them the most from acquiring it.

Multiple Capes will do nothing either though(don't we have enough already anyway?) as people will still rush what they deem is the "better" cape, be it stats, rarity, whatever...People do it for trimmed (hell I did it for trimmed), people even did it for skillcapes back when they came out..once just having one got old (cooking fletch fm) many set goals for the "rare" ones. I don't believe multiple capes will change anything.

The real problem is in the mentality that everything must be no lifed until Jagex comes up with another "goal" for players to set. This mentality increases stupid grinds for no reason (120 slayer) , DOA content and players begging for restructuring content into the path of least resistance.

Which is why personally I think leaving Comp the same is the best solution as it is the best system in deterring those for whom the cape was not meant for and the mentality that comes along with it. Forcing at least those players to find true enjoyment in other parts of the game rather than cape chase.

We have to get off of AFKandAchieve in order to turn this game around and the Comp grind would be one less thing to worry about.

I'm not sure if anyone has said this, but perhaps for the combat version of the cape just have a drop that is guaranteed on the first kill of any boss that will add to your current capes stats. Any new boss won't make you have to use a worse cape, it'll just give you the opportunity to make yours better. Current stats for the comp are +65 defence and +300 lifepoints. Current bosses in game counting hard modes (but not different enrages and rots as 1 since they all have to be killed at once) is around 60 and if you throw in minigame bosses like Cliff and penance king and queen it jumps up around 70. Furthermore there is a whole plethora of quest bosses that could be added if needed. This could be added as a cape, addition to a cape (like soul cape on comp) or just a stat boost to your character.
