It only detects malware I believe, but AVG should pick up any viruses. I use ESET, but I have tried AVG and never had a problem. I think it's easier to get malware installed on your computer than viruses, just be careful with what files you accept/links you click :)

I'm too lazy to read past pages. After MalwareBytes does its thing, run a "combofix" scan.

You're probably infected with adware, which is why you're seeing ads everywhere. Malwarebytes is able to detect this (and all sorts of malware) and usually is enough, but I'd run Combofix in case something was left behind.

I also suggest you run CCleaner scans on your registry as well as a scan to delete your temporary internet files.

Edit: Most antiviruses are a sham when it comes to protecting you from real-time malware. Like, if you click a link and you get infected, or if your browser downloads an infected cookie, it probably will go undetected by ANY antiviruses.

I ran malware bytes once on my computer immediately after running a norton virus scan and malware bytes detected nearly 20 issues on my computer. (about 3/4 of these were PUP and a few other were adware programs).

Only thing I don't like about malware bytes is it apparently takes up quite a bit of cpu to operate.
