And surely an anti virus 'not finding anything' is bad? I'm sure viruses, malware get through the system which is why updates are needed to combat the modern ones, the best anti virus get this sorted quickly.

Malwarebytes is pretty reliable, especially when it comes to file-scanning.

If you're careful with what you do you should be alright with AVG as long as you do the usual scan with Malwarebytes every now and then.
