Feedback about 'What's your Motivation?' Poll.
I actually quite enjoyed filling this poll out because of the nature of the questions. The questions weren't really about any *specific skill or process*, more about what people value highest in the game. As the results suggest, the answers can vary dramatically.
I guess you could say my avatar is somewhat reflective of how I am in reality (right down to the basic details like default clothing. Although my choices are also influenced by how the attire looks in-game as well). Hmm, I'm not sure how far Jagex will go with avatar creation / customisation in the future but there are some areas that could be made more variable.
Regarding what motivates me to play.. this might seem strange but as the game has progressed and favoured buying resources, items, etc I've become more adept at financing. Some people complain about frequent item "splurges" but I'm quite the opposite. :3 I still collect my own items, but if there is ever a need to buy things to aid me with levelling up, I weigh up the pros and cons of buying. If I make a loss, I generally find a way to compensate the loss through skilling.
Which brings me to the next topic: skills. I don't skill competively, for ranks or against friends for reasons that a too complicated to really mention here (based on personal philsophy
). I set realistic short-terms goals that I try to obtain and try not to compare myself to others. I guess you could say, there is no accurate way of comparing one achievement to another when they occurred at different stages of the evolution of the game.
As one of the older generation RS players, I've been through the times when there was no "(skill) X" and when you could literally fail at fishing lobsters.
That being said, I do enjoy doing benign things on RS that won't necessarily earn me EXP (chatting, emoting among other things).
