For a usual poll, yes, we'd try to get every kind of response covered if we can. But for this one, it was all about having three styles of choice for each. :-)

^ i like youre style :P

edit- the below question didnt have a good (A) for it. they all seamed to be selfish =(

Two players are having a dispute. Do you:

( you could be trying to help, but then add a sarcastic point to it)
Wade right in and tell them just what to do. You're the brains AND the beauty, right?

( shows you dont care, to help ppl)
Avoid the situation - whatever they decide will be the right thing. Plus, conflict gives you hives.

( shows youre a bad person O_o )
Escalate the arguement so it can only be resolved in the Duel Arena. Death and glory!

Did you write this poll? It doesn't make sense to me... Actually bothering to respond to players on a thread is not the norm and is pretty impressive (which is actually unimpressive by itself :p) and addressing other issues such as the weapon thing is what I like to see in a J-Mod, other than the typical working around the questions on on-topic questions and ignoring off-topic ones.

However, I have to say that after reading all of your replies, I still can't see how this was at all worth it. The polls are an invaluable way of gathering statistical data about your players and although not all players vote, it doesn't seem like this importance has been recognised since voting is hardly encouraged at all (although, I must admit, you have started advertising them on the Twitter accounts).

I simply could not answer the poll questions because the 3 cases were so extreme and seemed to be written by somebody who has an idea what the game is about, but has never played it properly. I don't have a problem with mods who don't play the game, since that's their choice, but I think things that end up being released to the public should be checked by a Mod who plays first. The 3 choices were:

1) Arrogant and stuck-up
2) Foolish
3) Arrogant and stuck-up

I really wouldn't like to be a part of either of those 3 categories. Anybody who thinks they deserve pixelated rocks over other people are being ridiculous, although not quite as much as those who would take someone to the Duel Arena/PvP over such a thing. Of course, both of these never happen in the game, and I'm sure even option 2) only occurs rarely (although that is still more than the other 2 options, hence why it got the most votes).

If I was competing with somebody for a resource, I would world-hop and find an empty world. If it was a really busy time, I'd train a different skill or use a different method. I wouldn't limit my own XP gain, and somebody else's, for no reason at all...

Now I understand that you intended this to be limited to 3 types of people/choices, but I don't think the 3 chosen accurately represented 3 different distinct personalities or whatever you were trying to achieve.

Let's be honest here; as somebody who plays the game and has done for a long time, and knows that all 3 options don't actually describe any (or if so, a very small percentage) people, I think the groups were broken down as follows:

The early teens or new players went for the PvP one. Nobody actually would do that ingame since it's just ridiculous. Firstly, the type of player to be cutting trees or mining rocks isn't going to be a hardcore PvPer anyway, and the only people who would consider the whole 'LETS GO TO PVP' thing are pures with 1 Defence who only win in specialised fights with no armour and so would be beaten anyway...

Everyone else was split between the first 2 options - arrogant or foolish? I was tempted by the first - you'd get better XP and although the reason behind it isn't right (that you're better), I probably would compete with the other person to see who gets the rock first (through clicking faster or having a higher level). I did go with the second option though, since in this strange poll-scape where you can't do logical things like world-hop, I would rather share than exclaim my pixelated awesomeness...

Can you go into some more detail about why this poll was needed? I'm worried that you're going to take the results and now assume that all players love to share resources and not care about PvP or fast XP rates, and so make even more team-based D&Ds that nobody uses! (Fish Flingers is completely empty nowadays, as is Familiarsation. Both are not teamwork but I'm sure it's on the cards.)

I'm sure most players (you could even have a poll about it!) would rather you simply used the actual ideas in the poll than using 3 confusing and limited options to expect what the players want. Seems very risky.

Soz Moe, but it was the Dev's choice as it is members only content.

Migy M - Cool, we'll check it out. :)

Can you pass on to that nutty mod (pun intended, and later realised to be awful) that we were told by Andrew that by being in the 'everyone' section there would be no difference to being in the old forums. Of course, we recognised that we would have less posters and less threads to look at, but the tiny advantage of having your threads being less likely to die meant this wasn't such a bad thing. I have found myself able to forget about the other communities.

Only having certain stickies unlocked in certain communities simply makes Andrew's comment a lie, and there's nothing else to it. If we're being forced to have to wait 6 hours to post again simply to post some feedback, I'd say that's a pretty big difference to the old forums. Not only are you getting less feedback, players get less of a sense of actually being able to impact the game, so LOSE-LOSE. The only benefit would be so the Mod only has 3 threads to look at instead of 4. OK, we all know that 2 of the communities are not used, so it means the Mod has 1 thread to look at instead of 2.

Quite frankly, I don't think a mod having to have 2 threads up in different tabs is quite as bad as you missing out on a lot of feedback and players not being able to post their feedback without then having to wait 6 hours to post on threads again. We were told that we could move all our threads to the 'Everyone' forum and pretend the forum update didn't happen, but that clearly is not the case.

Sorry, but I hated the poll. None of the answers applied to me, and I'm sure you've heard the rest of the arguments.

If this is the quality we should expect of the polls then I would rather we went back to not getting a new one for like a month at a time.

Edit: There was obviously an answer you were supposed to choose in each question, but I didn't really feel like a goody good. I choose the self involved answer on every one just because it was the first choice.

Once again, lame poll.

heh. just took the quiz. almost didn't notice, but struck me about halfway through what you were up to. testing out our personal philosophies in a saradomin vs guthix vs zamarock fashion. Very interesting. Seems like most people are guthian when it concerns others, but saradominist when it benefits them. how self serving =P

oh well, cant help but wonder how this may subtly influence the game in the future.

since you did everything but outright ask on the quiz:

I LIKE GUTHIX BEST! (except Zaros, who's awesome)

nice gnome hint, can't wait. will it have penguins?

ha. seems like theres plenty of ranting over the 'that choice doesn't reflect me' issue. =P tell me I'm not the only one who noticed that these questions are obviously directly reflected in the beliefs of the 3 major gods.

Saradomin: Stuck up and self-righteous

Guthix: Kind and balanced, self-sacrificing. (note the snoring)

Zamarock: Arrogant bloodthirsty jack-ass (well, tbh, he kinda is... >_> )

It's a fun, subtle, way to see which god more people are closer to being affiliated with. i thought it was funny.
