although ive beeb doing pking and clan wars with voice chat
i dont think runescape should have voice chat
first because information is too easily passed around such as the username and ********, and personal information
second because its harder to censor profanity
and third change the entire system of multicombat pvp like its another combat skill
I used voice chat a couple of time to discuss with friends but not to play activites in group.
About this idea, it would be great but make it optional so that people can choose who to talk to whom.
it would be great! but only if it was restricted to clan chat. i really don't want to get my eardrum exploded off every time i go to the grand exchange...
Seems like a cool idea. I'd use it but would you just be talking to people in your clan or would it be to everyone? Personally I would rather have it so its in that area and you can talk to any of them that have a mic and if they are being annoying have a way to mute them.

I bet it can't compete with the other internet-call services. I've tried the voice chats on other games, and it's been lagging and the sound quality has been terrible. But If you can make it work well, go for it. For me it doesn't matter as I already can call friends using other services.
I do use voice chat, but only with a few people since I'm kinda shy and well, talking to compelete strangers that says "Add me on skype" isnt really my thing..
But a voice chat in Runescape... I don't know, it feels like that would make things less secure, since anyone can talk to anyone, which might make it easier to break rules (solicitation).. And it would probably cause a lot of lagging and stuff, but yeah...
It would be good IF
The voice chat works on the same basis as clan chat ie: only your friends can use the channel.
Can use ********* to lock public chat channels if using external chat software.
Of course the main and big problem with voice chat is the e safety factor, with the majority of users being children you are going to have to monitor the chat 24/7. Which every one knows comes down to cost, or have a parental lock on voice chat with a separate ******** to account.
In playing many other games I've always found one thing....Hardly anyone uses the built in game voice chat feature unless it's a last resort. Usually ends up sounding garbled or lagged. Not sure why .
BUT seems most clans/guilds prefer Ventrillo, some use Teamspeak...and a handful use *fire or Skype.
The problems I see with an in game system (like most games) is mainly having it limited to only the area you are in, so say you are all standing around varrock fountain you can hear each other AND strangers around you...but if one of you trails off to the bank you are "in the dark" for chat and cant hear them anymore.
IF voice chat could be integrated into the clan chat system then Yes MAYBE it would be a viable in game tool to use.
BUT wouldn't it be easier for Jagex to maybe partner with Teamspeak or ventrillo and maybe rent some servers for voice?
Make voice a members only thing? to cover the cheap cost of rentals.
Teamspeak even has more in depth security like setting admins and such. And allows companies to buy licenses etc..
