Is there a way to check supported OpenGL versions without downloading a program to check for you? You can check your system information for the bit and can also see your graphics card info so presumably there'd be a way for those who'd rather minimize downloads.
Press Windows-Key and R-Key simultaneously -> type 'dxdiag' -> on "display" you will find what graphic card you are using. Based on that you can google your way through. "XXX opengl version"
I think I found confirmation that my graphics drivers are ok but I feel information like that should be easier to come by without needing third party software. You can get some to help with driver cleanup and installation too but it's a lot easier to get system and driver information without even doing an internet search. Otherwise results are mostly for more third party software like what was linked already.
I did find that Windows 10 apparently has an OpenGL compatibility app that might be worth looking into as an option for players who can't update their systems in time but I don't know enough about it to say if it would be usable for this.
While I'm back in this thread, I feel that some people risk missing this news unless a dedicated post is made on the homepage and some reminders are made in game. Not everyone reads the patch notes thoroughly or looks at every section of the forums. I'd hate to see some people caught off guard without knowing why the game stopped working for them.

I like how many people ask if this will mean the cash stack will get raised, as if we don't already have 64-bit data types on 32-bit hardware.

Can my old old pc with windows xp still run runescape??
They dropped XP support a long time ago. Unfortunately forum links have a tendency to break, but here's a link to a Reddit post linking to it:

Yes. If you have a Independent GPU like AMD Nvidia etc and the system IS 64 bit, runescape will continue to operate, however you may find from time to time that the game will randomly crash or bog down.
While most games are now supporting windows 10 and 11, there's still hope. Most XP, Vista, 7 and 8.2 windows versions hardware can have their drivers modified to allow functionality.
Basically what this change is doing, is pushing out old code.
This game has a TON of "spaghetti string" coding in it (like all other games that are available to play) that conflict with new updates and additions) that are causing headaches.
That is the best way I could describe it to the Non-Tech community.
I have a Windows 7 gaming PC with a processor pumping out 3.2GHZ quad core, and rocking a stock Nvidia gpu. I can play certain HIGH END, HIGH DEMAND games that are currently very popular among the streaming community, with little to no issues what so ever.
I have not overclocked the CPU or made any kind of modifications to the GPU (stock default settings) and it plays games like Apex and CoD with literally 0 to minimal hang. Shocking right?
If your board is 32 bit, runescape will not play on that GPU. You can look in System Settings and check out the version of Windows. It will say Windows XP sp X (vers. xxxxx.xx) <bit rate here>

Hope this helped ya some

I still think they should drop some warning about the requirements changes in the login messages and/or make a dedicated post explaining the requirements changes in more detail to make sure people who don't regularly read the patch notes are aware of this too and to help players get a general idea of how old their hardware would have to be to risk being within the affected group.
From what I found windows XP may still be able to support the right openGL version but is probably close to the cutoff.

Since I'm not that good with PC terms, let me ask this way:
1. My computer is an "ABS Summoner - Ryzen 5 3600 - Radeon Rx 590 - 16GB DDR4 3000MHz - 512GB SSD - Gaming Desktop PC"
2. My monitor is a "ViewSonic VX3216-SCMH-W 32 inch 1080p 1800R curved monitor with dual speakers HDMI DVI and VGA"
3. This is a "windows 10 home 64-bit"
4. The system shows 16.0 GB of physical memory(RAM) with 12.6 GB presently available; and it shows 18.3 GB of virtual memory with 11.6 GB presently available.
5. The Radeon Rx 590 graphics card shows it is up to date as of this morning.
Will my computer support these new changes mentioned in this thread?
I am what I am! Acknowledging this is the beginning; and my growth is yet to end!
Just saw this, thank you for the heads up! Wont effect me but good knowledge regardless.
