It can vary for me. I acctually find skilling very boring, and can't stick to one skill very long. Usually, I have to tell myself, "Before you're allowed to stop, you have to get ___ level first!"
Sometimes I will start skilling to make some cash when I'm running low, or I will use methods that make it extreamly fast.

Depends on the skill, profit you can make, exp/hr, etc. Every variable matters.

If I know that I need a specific level for some content which requires it (Such as a quest), then I strive to get that level as quickly as I can regardless of if I come out on top financially. If I were just training something for it's own sake, then I would be fine with taking a slower approach that would end up making money in the long run.
