Dear Jagex,
I know you mean well by removing the full functionality of items such as overload potions from the wilderness, but now you have to look at the new mechanics of PvP. Since December 10, 2007, let's look at some of the new items introduced into the wonderful world of combat.
-Dragon claws
-Godswords
-Spirit Shields
-Dragon Defender
-Ancient Curses
-Overloads and Extremes
-Korasi's Sword
-Chaotic weapons
-Nex-dropped armour/Zaryte Bow
One can argue that any of these items are "overpowered". Problem is, PKing is no longer about skill or honor. It's about who can kill who first. Just because somebody is holding a chaotic longsword doesn't mean a clan of pkers isn't going to pile on him the second he steps into multicombat.
Let's look at the case of super strength potions. These have the ability to raise someone with 99 strength up to a boosted level of 118. Meanwhile, an extreme potion has the potential to boost strength up to 125. This is the very advantage that the pker has spent the extra time and money to earn. Why punish them for it? One can argue that it's the same as someone making a pure strength account for pking - this is the advantage they have created for themselves, and spent the time and money to achieve.
If you're going to do this, at least appease to those players that did not want this update in some way. At 1.2 million votes, this is still a number along the lines of 120,000 people (implying the ballot was not stuffed in any way). Add the quest lines we've been patiently waiting for, fix Smithing (no major updates in 7 years!), anything, but do give this a fairer shot for more people to be happy with this update.
