I don't regularly post on the forums, nor do I care much about the updates as they generally do not completely alter the way I play the game. I do, however, believe this update to be worth the attention of everyone.
I began playing runescape around 2002-2003. There was obviously no trade limit then and the wilderness was the classic wilderness that so many people remember. The trade system and wilderness were perfectly fine back then but it is important to note that that did not last. In 2006-2007 botting took over in a lot of skills and ruined the game for many people. I would like to stress to all players who only joined Runescape in the last few years that botting today looks absolutely nothing like the botting back then. There were armies of level 3s running from tree to tree, around mines, and taking over fishing locations. It was really quite an insane time.
While initiating the trade limit kind of sucked, it did a lot of good in that it completely destroyed the incentive to bot at that type of out of control level. As much as jagex may talk about their ability to detect and ban botters, the actual war was won with the trade limit.
The obvious issue with bringing back free trade is that bots just take over again. That being said, I would absolutely love to have it brought back but I think a first and foremost the community needs more information. We need to know what is being done to prevent a bot takeover again and what sort of damage control will take place if that does happen.
It's easy to be nostalgic and want those days back (I voted in support in haste), and it's easy for people who weren't around to think "Hey, free trade, that's great!" I just think more information needs to be made available before a vote happens. As a sidenote: The very setup of the voting is questionable and needs to be altered, plain and simple.
Answers and information please.
