I see this as a new player/old player conflict. The game has lost some of it's hardiness with the removal of the wilderness. In the above someone stated that the wilderness was "the survival of the cunning." This is an excellent description of the wilderness. It IS your own choice to enter the wilderness.
I remember my first time playing RS back in 2004 or so, there was no warning for entering the wilderness-or I blatantly disregarded it- and I being the noob I was, wandered into it and got killed**
*** is different now, you have warnings for the wilderness, the new players are further educated. The thing that players must understand is that the wilderness is only as dangerous as you make it, there are less dangerous routes to get to such activities as Green Dragons, bone yard, hill giants, lessers, greaters and Mage Arena. The wilderness is where the mentally aware survive. We've all died there, we've all lost large amounts of money from dieing there. But it kept us coming back, whether it was to get revenge or the hope of some loot to cover our loses.
As to free trade, I only have small input. I used to love being able to give my friends presents, or even helping out somebody I did not know. My view on RWT is that if some idiots want to spend so much REAL money on attempt to gain a few mil or even a hundred mill on RS WITH the knowledge that they very well may be banned, let them. The GE should stay, but more variable fluctuation should occur in price changes, let the game live, let it breath. The economy is (should be) driven by the players. Scamming is minimal now, if a player is incapable of seeing a red exclamation point, they should find other habits besides trading.
Thanks for your time; may we have RS how it was once loved,
