The old wilderness. Go there, even at my level (120) and I die. At least against NPC's I stand a chance of being able to search for clue-scrolls **********. Sure, a certain level of gameplay has been lost, but a hell of a lot more has opened up since it has been gone. I could not see brawling gloves (for example) existing if the old wildy had not been removed. Equally, as its been said, minigames like the beacon fires would be nigh on impossible. Also, PKers would not be guaranteed the rewards that they can now achieve after a few hours of tactical gameplay (gathering drop potential and whatnot).
The only thing I miss is unbalanced/free trade. Sure I got scammed once or twice...but mainly down to lack of some of the things we have now, like the indicator when cash amounts change (the exclamation mark thingy) characters not being clear to read etc - the old 1000k changed to 10008gp trick being one that I fell for. Recently I've been feeling the pinch of not being able to trade freestuff to a friend who I've been gaming with elsewhere for some years to get him started.
However, for the majority, the loss of the wilderness has resulted in gain for the vast majority of the game, including PvP from what I can see. I doubt there would have been a perceived need for clan wars had the old wilderness stayed.
So I think the old wilderness should stay gone. Free trade...well, its a toss up, but I think that the more limited trade is an advantage for keeping the greater majority of the botters and hackers away which makes our ingame exploits worth more!
...Unfortunately I made the mistake of NOT reading the voting page properly...and voted thinking I would get the option to vote against...so I voted (anonymously) then realised that I'd voted for the one thing I don't want to ever see again (old wildy!!). Would it be possible for some kind of Jagex employee to please (please please.....etc) remove my name from the list of folks who've voted FOR the old wildy.
I'm glad its gone!
