Hello there!
I am a veteran player, and I have enjoyed this game for more than 4 years or so, and I voted "Yes" to return the Wilderness and trading to its original state.
Why you may ask?
Well, I myself find Runescape a game fun not for how easy it is to play, but how difficult it is to play and how you have to wait hours to sell your items in a bustling market place! I enjoyed this, as it made lots of player on player interaction, allowed you to start your own enterprises, and enjoy the business side of Runescape, and that is why I use to play the game. Now, the Market Place is like a stock market, no longer a place where people interact and actually trade, haggle, ETC. This has desolated my reasons to play the game as I loved this, and now, it is replaced with a cold Grand Exchange!
As for the Wilderness, the rush, the thrill of fighting others was wonderful! I was never good at it, but it was a fun pass time, as well as a good way to compete with other players, as you see in the new system, no one, I MEAN NO ONE, wants to wait hours for their EP to fill, wait an hour for a target, or face extreme penalties to their drop? Who in their right mind WOULD WANT THIS? Part of the reason you would be in the Wilderness is to get valuable ores, fight powerful monsters, earning good income, as Player Killers lurk in the shadows and strike. This is part, of the very fun of Runescape! It is the imperfections, the difficulties in this game, that make it fun. If you just got a billion gold from doing pointless grinding why would that be fun? Yet that is what the normal player in Runescape is doing now.
I know bots will return, just update your systems to remove them faster, and educate the Runescape population why not to perform this. In order to remove botters, you must remove the demand for them. Otherwise, they will ALWAYS EXIST.
All my friends voted yes and so will I, this matter is not just one of Pkers or merchants, it is one of the entire community!

There is no way to accurately judge how many players left the game, due to the fact that players can make as many accounts as they wish.
Not to mention many of the accounts of people that stopped playing, or stopped playing as much were still considered active accounts with no distinction for how much each was used.
Efforts to detect and ban botters could still be implemented on the same level and scope they are now, or even increased. If you haven't noticed, every prominent MMO is effected by cheating on some level. If all those players can learn to live with it, why can't you? It doesn't affect your personal gaming experience. The only reason someone would be upset by it is that they can't stand the thought that someone is getting an advantage over them. AKA angry nerds

agent, you really think that the majority of players don't want this update? I mean, jeez, its just a game. Who cares if someone else can get 99 wc faster than you can and without playing? does it really do anything to you?

Agent B, your an idiot.
There is at least 500,000 legit players that voted, most likely way more than that. But even if only half of the voters are legit players, there would still be more yes than no. If the greater majority of players didn't want old wildy and free trade then that means less than 100,000 players voted. You might want to study your math some more kid.

Agent people against the vote can vote just as many times as the people for it. If they choose not to do so it just goes to show that they are less motivated. Where are you coming up with random figures? 12% of runescape players are pkers? are you kidding? RS PK is one of the only reasons to play the game. EVERYONE I know that plays or played RS did so for the PK. Also, what defines a merchant? A player who sells goods to earn gp? A player who buys then sells goods to earn gp? The term 'merchant' can cover most if not all RS players.
Let me guess, you are one of the players who somehow actually enjoys endless grinding, and is upset by the fact that players can use bots to do the same thing you do. Well guess what. YOU ARE A THE EQUIVALENT OF A BOT.
Personally, I dont see the point of playing RS without PK or duels. There are much better MMOs out there for roleplaying, lore, questing, etc.

Yeah, in terms of plot, graphics, gameplay, etc.**** is lacking compared to other MMOs. The only advantage is that it is somewhat more affordable--but even then, prolonged membership is more expensive than, say, guildwars.
The part of RS that set it apart from those other games was the freedom and flexibility of its pvp.
