As a player who started in 05' and a member since the summer of 05', I'm going to throw my two cents into the pan here (Or perhaps my two ****).
I really can't understand why anyone wouldn't want Free-Trade and the Old Wildy to return. The only decent reason I can think of is that they started in 07', and don't realize what they have missed.
This post is for them.
Too those who warn you that you'll be scammed mercilessly, or hacked, tell them this:
Ever since Free Trade was lost, this game has become a clicking game. A game to click for hours and then too (In effect) show off how much time you have wasted clicking. If anything, I would say this phrase most accurately describes Runescape's current state of affairs:
- "No boring clicking, no gain..."
Back in the day, this game was more than a game, it was practically a life of its own. There were real consequences to your actions. You needed to know how to make friends with the right people, and figure out when someone was trying to swindle you.
The first time I was scammed, I certainly was very upset. I lost my entire set of iron armour to a switch-and-trade scam, which was from a claim of 10k which was switched at the last sec to 100gp
I didn't play for several days after that. But I got back on my feet, and resolved not to be tricked again. Since I made that choice, I've experienced nearly every scam in the book, and even pulled off a few myself. Yes Jagex, I did. But I did it for the thrill, and to teach my fellow players what I learned.
I returned all of my victims lost items immediately after each scam.
You see, as much as there was scamming and hacking and bots, and all those ever exaggerated threats coming from this supposed pandora's box (Free Trade) is met with equillibrium by the generous elites of this game. In total, I feel perfectly confident in saying that what I gained from friendships and open and un-asked-for charity surpasses losses from all the times I've been scammed combined
