I would like to start off by saying that I think the return of free trade as long as the Grand Exchange remains is a fantastic idea. It brings back some of the fun interactions with players that you would have when buying items and might even recreate the player-made themed worlds (world 2 for selling might expand to its original size, law and nature running might exist again).
Now, moving onto the reinstatement of the old wilderness. When the old wilderness was first removed, there was quite the uproar. However, I think most of the complaints received by Jagex have been met in full. The PvP world system that we currently have is something that I have always thought would be an excellent idea. I mean who could object to fighting another player anywhere in the giant world of Runescape, right? And the fact that these worlds are separate from the normal gameplay caters to both parties. For these reasons, I think that bringing back the old wilderness system would have adverse affects on the Runescape community. Granted, there are several things that can be improved on with the PvP system like actual drops (instead of a drop potential that possibly gives similar items to what the killed player was wearing). But imagine what happens to a lot of current content if we reinstate the old wilderness. Kiss your green dragons goodbye and the experience-giving armored zombies entrance probably will turn into the next best camping spot for pkers to hunt high level players and their valuable armor. Oh, and have fun getting to the corporal beast.
I think the outcome that would be best for everyone, player-killers, skillers, casual gamers, merchanters and boss-hunters, is one that has free trade reinstated but keeps the PvP worlds separate with some small modifications.
