Zaltaz i live in uk vat jsut went up to 20% i know what infaltion is i was explaing thats why prices have gone up since 2007
people in general have got richer as they been playing longer
so they are now willing to spend more on high end products
which in turn makes the people that already have items like party hat's even richer when they sell them and they go spend there money on the new items that come out making the new items very expensive.
it makes sense does it not?

In fact, prices of old items should technically go down (excluding rares of course) as they are replaced by higher level items.
In addition, simple inflation makes it harder for beginners to play because they need to make more money before they are able to buy some of the items they need. As far as I know, the drops monsters give have never been increased, so lower level players fighting lower level monsters are getting the same about of "pay," but the items that they need cost more. This discourages new players and threatens the life of the game. However, eventually of course...when things get too out of hand, more people will quit, reverting the economy back to its original state. In Runescape, people quitting is similar to a war or pandemic in the real world. It's all about balance, which is why I roll guthix =)

fred im sorry, but your just simply wrong. your reasoning is completely off, and id rather not get into that discussion more then we already have. but the reason why there is so much money in the game is NOT because people have been playing longer.

One problem with that point you made. New skills have been released since the removal of Free Trade. Example: Construction. Which is a huge cash dump. No money to be made there. And look at all the 99's on the highscores. That's alot of money removed from the game.
