I was born in Wexford, Ireland and as a lad I was shipped off to America for a brighter future. While in America, during my teens, I grew up fantasizing of my homeland. For, I had very little memories of it, and my parent's somehow became lost in translation during my childhood.
Two years ago I was able to return to my homeland via a business trip and I stood on the Wexford docks, took in the salty air, and looked out into the gorgeous Muir Éireann. That whole week was spent in and of out meetings, not the usual summer vacation per-say, but on the last day I was able to find my parent's gravestones. Closure is the best summer I've ever had.

My most memorable memory that was in summer was the time that my Grandmother took me over seas to Germany for three weeks as a graduation gift. In those three weeks I seen a lot of new things as well as learning about them. While I was there I made many friends and even got them to start playing RuneScape. We did stay up real late playing RuneScape and I got to show them a little of what i do at home. It was a great experience and I cannot wait to go back to see more of Europe.

My favourite summer memory was my 10th birthday, where my family took me to Go Paint! where you paint small pre-made sculptures.
I was allowed to pick anything I wanted so I scanned the choices and at the end of a shelf was the prettiest thing: A small fairy sitting on a crescent moon with a puffy cloud under it. My grandfather let me have it as long as I promised not to break it.
She turned out beautifully in an array of soft colours, and to this day, she sits on my desk with memories in her hands.

ha this actually happened this summer i was out mowing my acreage when one of my neighbors came up to me and said we should have a bonfire to get rid of some of these dead trees later that night i turned my back for two seconds to get a match then i go back to light the fire so i throw the match in and the fire blares up and takes off my eyebrows after that i figure out that somebody had dumped half a bottle of lighter fluid on the wood while my back was turned

I spent my summer in Quito, Ecuador, a city with a thousand names, barely enough to match its multitude of people, lifestyles and histories.
It is the Light of America, Patrimony of Humanity (the first city in the world to be named such - before Paris, London or Rome), the city of four seasons in one day, the city of clouds, of eternal sky, the city in the Middle of the World, the city of the Volcano.
It stretches out like a creature between two mountains ranges, a snake, but with long crooked fingers reaching into *las faldas* of the two Pichinchas: *Rucu,* the old man; and *Guagua,* the baby, and the volcano.
This is my second summer there--last year, I learned the language (still a daily struggle), and this summer I completed data collection for my senior thesis in anthropology. I have focused my field work on a case study of one family in Quito, investigating specifically the way "family" serves as a nexus for the negotiation of identity.
Thanks for reading! :D
Good Luck to everyone who participates! :P
