"Summer? Where..?"
That's the question everyone in The Netherlands was asking. The oh-so beautiful sunlight didn't break through the bed of clouds for a few weeks - maybe a month - since Summer started.
In the Bible, they call 40 days of rain a 'disaster'. Here - in The Netherlands - we call it 'Summer'. Due to all this rain there wasn't much to do. Many people stayed inside and were brainlessly watching TV or doing something else for recreation. As for me, I've been behind my PC all day long. Doing nothing but looking at my screen as a pointless, brainless and most importantly, tired, person. It was like staring at an endless void you're being sucked into.
And then, suddenly, in the moment everyone thought there would be no Summer.. Sunlight broke through the clouds above. Shining down from heaven itself. The earth illuminated once again. God, did we miss that sun. "Daniël! The sun is shining, let's go outside!" as my friend contacted me on Facebook - the site I spent most of my time on during 'Summer'. -
Everything didn't seem ridiculously in vain any more. Swimming was possible, everything was. It was finally Summer as it should be. It won't last long though, so I'll have to make use of it. The only problem is me being an insomniac and the nights are stretching really long. Making it almost futile to go outside because I don't have enough energy. But I try and that's what counts.
I'm now spending Summer by going outside with friends, walking around, go to the woods and all such things. I even considered singing. Something which I had not done for a very long time.
All in all, I couldn't wish for a different Summer. It was something else for a change. Something worth waiting for. We waited for the very moment of warmth and a calm atmosphere.. And that's what we got. A Summer well deserved. A Summer to not be forgotten. A different Summer, like every single year.
