This summer me and a few friends went on a cruise down to the Bahamas. We embarked on a 5 day cruise at the beginning of July that stopped in key west, FL, Nassau Bahamas, and freeport Bahamas. We went on these excursions at every stop we made on the cruise. While in key west, we snorkeled with dolphins, and stingrays --which was awesome!-- and in freeport we went diving in a reef about five miles off the coast with a lot of cool fish and whatnot. The best excursion i believe was in Nassau. Me and another friend decided to go snorkeling off an island called blue lagoon. We were with about 15 other people on this excursion. When we set off on this excursion the tour guide had warned about sharks being spotted recently around the area we were headed to. Me, being a pretty comical person thought it was a joke, but to find out it was no joke at all. We finally made it to the area we were going to snorkel and the water was disturbingly calm. Everyone got their gear and jumped in the water. Everything was going fine until a woman started screaming. I was only about 30 yards from the woman who seemed she had trouble swimming back towards the boat. About the time i realized what she was screaming about one of the tour guides yelled, SHARK!! I decided that i was going to somehow help the poor lady. Almost as soon as i started making my way to the woman, the shark had miraculously let go. the woman, who i later learned was named susan was bleeding around her left ankle and lower calf muscle. me and another man helped the woman back onto the boat. i work as a lifeguard back home so i knew some basic first aid. We had to cut the circulation off in her left leg and wrap her leg up to keep it from bleeding profusely. It was about 10 minutes until the coast guard/medical people arrived and hauled her off back to the hospital. i later learned that the woman made it and she was doing good. After all that chaos i was glad i helped save someones life. Man! what a summer!!
