Heres my philosophy on Screen Recorders:
Every computer is different when using them. You just got to go on a huge search for the "best" one. Make a practice video for each recorder and compare. Choose the one you like the best.
I did this with a lot of popular recorders but I ended up picking "Super Screen Recorder".
The variations of the "best" screen recorder varies. It all depends on YOUR computer.
The more programs you have open when recording, the more laggy it will be.
Just experiment :)

True.. Every computer handles each recorder differently. But I think that CamStudio doesn't use up as much RAM as others, making it more prefferable for other computers. (I should know, my computer sucks.)

Making the Video |
-------------------------
Some Tips on making the Video.

When making any type of video, always start out with an idea. Its important that you choose an idea that your proud of! Otherwise, you won't have a fun time.
Once you've developed an idea for your video, you should come up with ideas of where to film. Just walk around Runescape for places that might relate to your idea.
Things to keep in mind when at these locations:
-Will the scenery interfere with the text (if any)
-How do you want to look down at your character (angles)
-Will people be able to understand whats going on in this scene?
-Will there be a lot of people in the scene that might get in the way?
Next you want to think about what sound the video is going to have (if any).
-Do you want music?
-Do you need sound effects (downloadable or in editing software)
-Will you be using Runescape sounds?
-Will you be narrating?
Now that you have all your ideas and scenes outlined, you want to get ready to record.
-Get your actors (if any)
-Close down any uneeded programs (to make sure the quality if the best)
-Go to your 1st location
When your recording, it is sometimes easier to continue to record if you mess up. You should be able to cut out the mess-up film. Most Screen recorders prompt you to save the video after you stop recording.
Once you finally get all your video, you should edit it for any extra features. When editing I suggest:
-Cut off uneeded film. The time it takes to press the record button and when you make your character act, is usally not needed.
Other things to keep in mind:
-Make sure their aren't many spaces between actions
-Make sure the video flows
-Add any needed music, or effects
Then finalize the video.
After your video has been finalized, make sure you review the video multiple times and go through the Machinima rules.
Ask a friend or family member to watch it, so they can review.
Send it and your done ;)

Hey, I have a question, it would be helpful if a moderator answered but anyway, are we aloud to edit it and make it look like a creature is talking? For example: let's say there's a revenant in my video, can i make it look like it's talking? Please respond. :)

Yes you are allowed. My video for the previous competition showed a gnome talk in a high sqeaky voice. The video is on the "How we lolled" list near the top. You can watch it just for an idea ;)
What I actually did what use an egg ring to hide behind the gnome to make it seem like you could use the gnome as your own character :P

Yes, you can do a slide-show as long as it's advertising something within RuneScape.
Also, the Orb of Oculus will not be able to record your screen so I suggest using one of the following programs: FRAPS, Camtasia Recorder, or HyperCam. I find FRAPS captures your screen with the highest quality, but it really depends on your computer. If you don't have a pretty good computer, FRAPS will probably lagg quite a bit while recording.
