Laws - Intro

When King James took control of Misthalin the laws of the Kingdom at that time were changed radically to reflect his own stance on what the law & order of a kingdom should look like. In many cases this new constitution has replaced existing laws that were far more lax and less detailed. Whether or not this leads to issues later down the line remains to be seen. Laws - The tenants of Rulership

These are rules laid down by Armadyl for rulers that serve him to obey

I - No ruler shall consider themselves to be above the judgment of Armadyl. His wisdom overrides all other laws as he represents pure Justice.

II - No ruler shall in any way fail to abide by the laws and regulations that they lay down for their people

III - No ruler shall attempt by any means to give themselves authority beyond that which is laid down in the laws and regulations of the kingdom

IV - Any ruler must, without exception criminalize the following acts and treat them as the highest tier of severity: Murder, Rape, Terrorism, Direct treason against Armadyl and Theft or attempted Theft of eggs from birds nests.

V - Any ruler must, without exception criminalize the following acts and treat them as the second highest tier of severity: Manslaughter, Necromancy, Slavery and Kidnapping "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

Laws - First Tier Severity

First Tier Severity crimes are the most heinous crimes imaginable and are punishable by either Death, Extended Imprisonment (meaning arrange an escape if you ever want to use this character again) or Exile.

Crimes covered by this tier include:

- Murder - The deliberate act of killing a member of a sentient race.

- Rape - I don’t need to explain this.

- Terrorism - The use of weapons or employment of tactics that are categorized as causing terror for any reason unless sanctioned by the state. This can include but is not limited to: excessive arson, use of explosives in public areas, use of any weapon or magic considered to be “forbidden” against the general public or the state, executions carried out in a way deliberately designed to spread panic in the population.

- Direct Treason Against Armadyl - Any credible attempt to threaten Armadyl or the Armadylian faction as a whole will be met with a swift execution.

- High Treason - Actions which betray the reigning sovereign, their government or the citizens of Misthalin. This can include actions to sabotage the armies of Misthalin, attempts to destabilize the Misthalian economy, designs to assassinate or depose the sovereign or members of their government, among other things.

- Theft of eggs from birds nests - Armadyl is fond of birds. Don’t do this one, it’s not worth it. "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

Laws - Second Tier Severity

Second Tier Severity crimes are still considered to be pretty unforgivable in most cases and thus still carry heavy penalties (although generally not as harsh as tier 1 crimes).

Manslaughter - Any deliberate act of aggression that leads to the accidental death of the victim or negligent inaction that leads to the same.

Necromancy - The raising of the dead for any reason is directly prohibited by law.

Slavery - Any claim of ownership of a person or of buying or selling a person or forcing a person to work without receiving adequate payment.

Kidnapping - Any attempt to abduct another person or to hold them by force against their will.

Armed Robbery - Any attempt to steal from others which involves using or threatening to use a weapon

Narcotics Trade - The sale, or possession of sufficient quantities to suggest that a a business is being run of any herb, weed, mushroom or other substance that the state has banned due to its long term effects on the health of the general population.

Weapons Smuggling - Any person found to be carrying or stockpiling a supply of weapons greater that what could reasonably be considered personal use who does not have a valid permit issued by the state will be considered to be guilty of this crime.

Corruption - Any government official found to be accepting a bribe

Laws - Third Tier Severity

The Third Tier tends to be more dominated with financial crimes instead of directly aggressive ones. Punishments generally involve either short to medium prison sentences or fines.

Theft - Stealing money or items from another individual equal or greater than the value of 100gp

Fraud - Any attempt to extort money or other items of value from another individual using deception

Grievous Bodily Harm - Any assault that is said to have caused "GBH". The guidelines for this classification being that the victim has suffered severe injury or long term injury.

Sedition - Any action that is taken in order to undermine public confidence in the government.

Bribing an Officer - The attempt to pass money to any official for any reason other than one acknowledged as acceptable by the government (i.e. paying fines) "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

Laws - Fourth Tier Severity

The least severely punished crimes although still expected to be avoided.

Assault - Any attack on one person by another person that does not result in GBH

Petty Theft - The taking of money or items from another individual to the value of less than 100gp "The greatest endeavors are achieved because of their selfless intent"

Laws - Banned weapons & magics

- Necromancy
- Demonic rituals/Summoning
- Soul magic
- Any weapon based on divine energy
- Handcanons or any other weapon based on firing projectiles using an explosion
