With the reformation of the Amddiffynwr Uchel- the royal guard of the Telemamitë family- and the disbanding of the military and local militia forces, Nolfinwë and Aelwen assembled a team of recruits to the guard to begin their first assignment.

The objective was simple; there was a local priest stirring up revolt against the elves' foreign rule, and so Marwolaeth, Aeronwen, Oomi, Carwen and Aelwen were dispatched- a days' ride from Hailawën- to the outskirts of Hemenster to find the monastery the priest was residing in,
and eliminate him and any of his overly-zealous followers.

As the group closed in on the location they sought, they began to encounter evidently-displeased humans- many spitting and throwing rocks at them as they rode past. In response, Marwolaeth and Oomi were ordered to ride on ahead and survey the area, while Aelwen, Carwen and Aeronwen took a back road to investigate the monastery the priest was last sighted in, away from the threat of the locals.

While Marwolaeth and Oomi turned out to be safe taking the main road in, the back road- despite being chosen in particular for being a safer option- was littered with a dozen rebels,
their bows trained on the elven trio, in silence. When the priest came forth, he demanded a duel, one-on-one, against one of the elves present; a show of force for his followers to witness, so it seemed.

Aeronwen dismounted and drew her sword. She would be the one to face him. And with a clashing of crystal against steel, she did- only to capture his severed head as she took him down. While half a dozen of the priest's loyal followers stood their ground, watching the elves as they left, the other half dozen simply up and left. Out of fear, or to deliver a warning to the others; they would never know as they departed.

As the party returned home, they were rewarded with promotions appropriately;
all were promoted from Recriwtio status to Recriwtio Posibl. All, except Aeronwen, and Carwen. Aeronwen, for her stunning display of skill in the field both in leadership and in her sword arm, was awarded with a promotion from Recriwtio to Gorforrol, and Carwen received no promotion at all; as he attempted to disrespect the king several times over.

Later that day, Vanto would also arrive as a Recriwtio; and in exchange for beating down Carwen, received the rank Carwen would have received, earning his place as Recriwtio Posibl.

Future missions would continue to assess the situation around the growing rebel threat that had not been ended by the death of the militant zealot.

“Gathered by their king for a task, the elves Aelwen, Coed, Merca and Sularwyn marched alongside Nolfinwë as night fell. They were led into a clearing in the woods south of Eagle’s Peak and there (reluctantly) started to conduct a blood ritual. They were teleported to a temple to the east, their hands submerged in the water of a fountain in the centre. Nolfinwë stood aside and performed the rites, many of his soldiers were alarmed by his words and a few nearly tore their hands from the fountain before being ordered not to do something so foolish. The ritual was completed and they were all sent back to the clearing, surrounding the blood-stained ritual stone.

Merca immediately grabbed the king and demanded an explanation only to be thrown back into the brush by Nolfinwë’s magic, after which he exited the clearing, looked to a few more elven soldiers who had arrived and vanished with a puff of smoke. All elves present were deeply troubled and confused, finally coming to the realisation that they had not been in the presence of their king - rather, an imposter; for how long it had been Nolfinwë and how long it had been whatever was posing as him they could not say. Without wasting any time they set out, sending word to a trusted few to aid them in the capture of whoever had managed to fool them.

Swiftly banding together and setting out using the guidance of their arcanists, Coed, Merca, Aelwen, Borlas, Cirdan, Aeronwen, Grey and Sularwyn arrived far south of Eagle’s Peak, drawn to the unusual source of magic they had detected thanks to their mages.

What they encountered shortly thereafter was not their king, but a humanoid wreathed in shadow that seemed to be made of crystal - it showed superhuman strength and speed on their first sighting of it, brushing off an arrow wound like it was nothing and outrunning the entire party with ease.

The second encounter did not far so well for the creature, however; as the elves tracked its crystallising blood trail further south they eventually met it again, this time it seemed much more willing to give them a fight. It stood seven feet tall, a crystalline beast that took the form of a man, extremely hardy and terrifying with the ability to change its shape. The first blood was spilled when Merca shoved Aeronwen out of the way of the monster’s bladed arm as it came down, slicing her own arm wide open and signalling the start of the fight. Aelwen, Merca, Sularwyn, Grey and Coed were all close and entered the fray, Sularwyn healing Merca and Aelwen hurling several javelins from afar to keep the beast from charging the injured.

Aeronwen was valiant in her efforts to slay the beast, driving her swords into its back and landing several subsequent blows, but its hide was far too tough and Grey was ultimately the one to defeat the monster by using her own crystal singing, turning it back into a seed; not before it impaled Merca and a few others with its own body’s spear-like barbs and threw Aeronwen against a nearby tree.

As the monster fell and returned to a seed-like state its form quickly came apart, and instead of the terrifying crystalline beast there stood their king, looking winded and exhausted. Merca immediately pressed him for answers, learning that it was him who conducted the ritual, but as someone had removed their hands from the fountain during, a creature had possessed him and taken over his body until they had intervened.

Merca’s hand immediately flew up to punch the king as she learned he had used them for a dark ritual to gain power, which was met with an absent-minded bind spell and a telekinetic push, much to her annoyance. Coed had already left the group, seemingly shaken by the battle and needing to be away from the others. They gathered their wounded and set out back to camp, the night coming to an end.”

Note: This summarises events from two RPs that took place when the elves were still a militia, slightly before the war and the Amddiffynnwr Uchel's formation.
