Name: Cedrid Berkly Hallows

Race: elf

Age: 279

Gender: male

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Occupation: freelance archeologist

Personality: Cedrid is a very pleasant fellow, and loves to listen to stories of other peoples adventures. He tries not to act to superior around others, beyond the pristine condition his illusory formalwear appears to be in, and likes to encourage others to try their best and overcome their fears. He always tries to keep a pleasant face and does his best to keep his friends in a good mood.

Power(s), Abilities, and/or Skill(s):
-Cedrid is a knowledgeable crystal singer; he knows the song to create glowing crystals, shields, and staves. He also enjoys studying crystal singing and tries to create various doodads or semi magical semi mechanical objects using crystals and (obviously) other forms of magic.
-Cedrid is an avid magic user, especially in the areas of enchanting and portal crafting.
-Cedrid, while not being a major combatant, skillfully uses ancient ice and smoke spells both in combat and out of combat for various purposes involving research and innovation.
-while not being an incredibly avid illusionist, has painfully come up with a way of making his combat robes appear as formal wear so he can be ready for a fight without arousing suspicion.

Weaknesses: not the most avid combatant. Has very little raw physical strength, preferring to use his magical abilities instead of strength in most out of combat cases. As such he is very susceptible to combatants who have significant defenses against magic, or who are generally better at predicting his escape routes. He is great with portals and making portals, but quick teleports are not his forte. He is a very curious and inquisitive person who likes asking lots of questions, getting lots of answers, and sticking his nose in places it shouldn't be. Thusly he is very susceptible to well devised traps (preferred bate: knowledge he doesn't possess, rare plants, herbs, minerals, etc.).

Weapons/Specialized Tools:
-staff of some sort (usually a Zarosian staff but will use others if he fears revealing his religious affiliations)
-crystal seed carrying satchel containing 5 crystal seeds (possesses a small supply at his home but normally only brings at least 5 with him when he goes out.)
-Cedrid journal: his ongoing compendium of magical research contains a record of his travels and explorations, as well as notes on portal creation, crystal singing, a map of Gielinor, maps of dungeons he has explored, and diagrams of the night sky and of magical sigils he has discovered in his journeys. It also has been enchanted to allow for its use in the channeling of magic for casting spells in and out of combat.
-land surveyor: a special mechanism of Cedrid's own design powered by earth runes that can detect a potential underground construct when positioned directly above it, as well as be calibrated to map out caverns by mapping them out in a fifty meter radius

Clothing/Armour: normally wears a set of Zarosian robes that he created in memory of his parents, but normally uses the illusion of formal wear when in public so as not to arouse suspicion. The formal wear is basically a very light purple suit. He always makes sure to wear leather boots and gloves, as well as a hardhat when exploring tombs and dungeons.

Description:

Hair Color: dark brown

Eye Color: green

Height/Weight: 6.7 ft./ 180 lb.

Scars/Exotic Body Features: none

Other: tall and somewhat slender, Cedrid has very little muscle to him. His hair is normally tied back but he has two distinct pieces of hair near the front of his head that are not quite long enough to be tied back, these frame his face which, due to his constant mucking about in underground places, is pale as the rest of his skin. The tips of his fingers tend to be slightly blackened due to his constant use of ice magic during his explorations to try and freeze traps that he accidentally sets off.

Short History:

Shortly after the elves were brought to Gielinor, a small group of elven explorers broke away from the initial settlers with the desire to find and explore the new world they had been brought to. This migratory group of settlers traveled the world of Gielinor for thousands of years cataloging and making notes of many mysterious wonders of this new world. They spent thousands of years looking and learning from many of Gielinor's mysteries. This continued for eight generations of their family until the ninths came across something fantastic in nature. After having constructed a large sea vessel (it was hardly seaworthy but it got the job done) to travel out to the frozen island of the north only know as ice berg, the elves came to study the bizarre creatures known as penguins when they encountered something far more interesting.

After an obviously violent release of magical power, so strong the very earth shook, the elves encountered a small group of beings who towered over the elves and held a great deal of power. The elves exchanged a small amount of culture with these great beings. One of these beings exchanged some books containing information on various powerful magical spells and the god who created them in exchange for three crystal seeds and a short crystal chanting lesson. With the use of their small group of crystal singers and crafty use of various woods and other materials the boat slowly transformed over the decades from a large raft with tents, to a small floating town. The elves used this floating village as a base to explore other islands. This small village was named Cân y Môr (which means: "Song of the Sea" ) .

History con.:

It contained five triangular houses each pointing towards the central mast which acted as the town hall, general store, and crafting house. Here they also built an alter room. This was the first point of contention among the explorers. When the mysterious beings had given the elves the book, some of the members of the expedition wanted to follow this mysterious god, others wanted to remain true to Seren, and others still wanted to find a compromise between the two known beliefs and follow both gods. It started small with only the addition of two alter rooms one for Seren and one for the lord of the majarrat. But soon this was not enough.

Tensions rose and eventually the followers of Seren (composing about two fifths of the expedition group) split two of the houses away from Cân y Môr and sailed home for Isafdar, vowing never to speak of their exploits again. After this the worshipers of the mysterious lord took their two houses from the city and left the last lonely house of the compromisers. They kept the central mast and its buildings but eventually found their way to a mysteriously scarred region of the world they had never seen before. What they did not know was that this was the forest of Forynthy that their ancestors had recorded thousands of years earlier. They brought their meager craft ashore and dragged it across the land until they discovered a small unscathed patch. Here they built a home from the dead trees and remnants of their ship.

It was at this time that Cedrid was born. Due to the long separation from elven tradition, his birth did *** come with the customary crystal trinket, but instead great joy to his family who took his birth as a sign that they could bring life back to this dead land.

History con.:

Cedrid's education mainly consisted of training in combat magics from his father, and crystal singing and enchanting from his mother. While he did learn the invaluable magics of smoke and ice from his father's combat training, he learned most of what he would later use from his mother.

Their happy secluded life was not to last however, for destruction loomed on the horizon. A wondering group of well organized chaos dwarves assaulted their household, and while the dwarves were outmatched by Cedrid's family’s magical prowess, they were eventually overrun due to the sheer size of the attacking forces. Cedrid’s mother managed to teleport him away just before she too was killed.

In the aftermath of his families murder Cedrid wandered the wilderness for weeks until he eventually found his way out and into the town of Edjevile. Here he learned of a conservatory of the magical arts known as the wizard's tower, and he immediately made plans to go and put his knowledge to use there. On his way he decided to hide his religious affiliations so as to prevent any persecution on that front.

When he arrived he petitioned for acceptance as an apprentice and when the wizards of the tower saw his incredible magical abilities thus far immediately accepted him. During his time at the tower he was an avid studier in the realm of portals and enchanted machinery but he always felt like he needed more.

One day his prayers were answered in the form of an attack on the wizard’s tower by an upstart necromancer. The situation had escalated to the point that the temple knights got involved. During the siege Cedrid managed to elude the necromancer's forces and trap the necromancer in a block of ice.

History con.:
Deciding he would prefer a life of adventure to the endless studying at the tower he left the wizards tower and was accepted into the ranks of the temple knights in return for his assistance in the subdual of the necromancer.

Cedrid enjoyed the constant adventure and glamour of being a temple knight but the pressure as a result of hiding his religion in such a closely knit society as well as the lack of time to openly study history and magic began to get to Cedrid.

Cedrid's qualms with being a temple knight reached a fever pitch during one of his missions where he finally decided he had enough of being a knight. He had been sent on a mission with three other knights to search a cavern for a cult of Zamorakian wizards that were rumored to be hiding out there. Cedrid's company eventually discovered the ruins of what seemed to be an ancient library. It was situated in a large cavern that was supported by one large carved wooden pillar. Venturing further they found the wizards huddled around a magical circle, and prepared to summon a powerful demon.

Unfortunately for the temple knights the demon was summoned and a fierce battle began between the knights and the demon. Eventually the knights lead the wizards and their demon into the library and decided that the only way to stop it was to take out the support pillar in the library and collapse the cavern. Cedrid was infuriated by this and refused to assist in the "wholesale destruction of forgotten knowledge."

The knights barely managed to take out the pillar and kill the demon but by this time Cedrid had had enough. He walked away and several days later resigned from the temple knights. He then set out to find a place to live and operate out of as what he believed was exactly the job he was looking for: a freelance archeologist.

History con.:

Using his magical abilities to hire construction assistants he found a small cavern to set up a wizard's dreamhold. Upon its completion Cedrid began to explore and acquire knowledge from various places across Gielinor using his portal chamber as a means to travel and set up excavation sites.

One of Cedrid’s first archeological expeditions was to the lost city of Uzer. Having not earned enough money to purchase any means of travel through the desert, and not having a portal to Uzer set up yet, Cedrid was forced to travel on foot. After getting through shanty pass he shirked off the insistent ramblings of the carpet salesman and trudged through the send towards where he was told Uzer would be located.

Three days into the journey he realized he was hopelessly lost. He had only brought food and water for three weeks and was beginning to worry that he might not reach his goal. But he resolutely continued on his journey.

After a few weeks he finally came across the river he was told of and thanked Zaros for his mercy. Cedrid finally found the bridge and was back on track but when he got to the other side he was attacked by a group of bandits.

Cedrid tried to reason with them saying he had no valuables to offer but they wouldn’t listen. Quickly forming up a smoke screen, Cedrid dashed towards some rubble he could see on the horizon, and quickly ducked for cover hoping he lost the bandits, however even with the aid of the smoke screen the bandits still managed to tail Cedrid to the rubble.

Mere moments after the bandits exposed Cedrid’s hiding spot a golem made of clay approached and the bandits fled in fear. Cedrid was fascinated by the clay construct.

He would later spend several days pouring over its inner workings and scouring the ruins of Uzer for pieces of the mysterious clay golems to study.

Other:
As previously stated, Cedrid is not an avid fighter. He tries to at first reason with an aggressor before resorting to combat. When his diplomacy fails he resorts to creative use of smoke magic and ice magic to try and escape, and if escape is impossible, he tries to subdue the aggressor with ice magic. He constantly alternates between exploring tombs and dungeons across Gielinor, and researching various magical and mechanical constructs at his dreamhold. His favorite pass time is to create functional models of items he intends to create out of crystal, and researches constantly new songs to create functional parts from mechanisms. One of his favorite subjects of research is the creation of a crystal golem, much like the clay ones of Uzer.
