The events following King Jacob's decision to have an imperial garrison placed in the Duchy of Lassaria…
The imperial garrison force intended for the city of Silverhill was met with traps along the way; hidden sporadically along the main road, beartraps may have clamped around the occasional unsuspecting armsman's leg, while others could fall victim to pit traps, where they might tumble into a ditch of long wooden stakes. It is unclear who set these traps or if they were even intended for the approaching imperials. However, there was certainly enough to be a little more than a nuisance to the imperial soldiers marching through the northern forests. Furthermore, peculiarly, the villages that remained untouched by raiding parties seemed quite abandoned. Any storages, of food or otherwise, searched by the imperial forces would be discovered to be, for the most part, empty and it was as if their contents had been moved in a quick sweep.
When they arrived outside of the Gate of Silverhill, the imperial garrison intended for Silverhill was stalled at the gate and calls up to the standing garrison seemed to be ignored. Then, as the Duke and his imperial company awaited word from inside the city, they were met by a man who was sent down from the city walls. Though he was dressed down, wearing a thick coat and fur cloak drawn over his shoulders, warding off the harsh northern chill that was setting in, he wore the distinctive Horns of Zamorak strung around his neck and bore the hardened features of a northern Asgarnian. If he was searched, despite his insistence that he did not come armed, they would find that he spoke the truth and he would tell them that he had been sent to inform the Duke, his company, and the officers of the imperial garrison that he was a messenger from inside the walls.
