"These rumors can't be real."
"Why are we all standing around?"
"Who sent out those letters anyways? To good to be true."
"Saradomin, I just want to drink and go to bed."
The gathering of laborers, farmers, and rural land lords had grown restless, assembled in the woods along the King's Road. They'd all been summoned by word of mouth after the first letters went out.
Come, all who seek freedom from tyrants. Who want something new. Who are not afraid to be the kings of their own destiny. Assemble along the King's Road, at twilight on the Thirteenth day of the month, and take the first step in securing your own empire.
It was just when the sun had dipped below the horizon, and torches were ignited did they reveal themselves. Black clad wizards surrounded the group from the treeline and from the center of the group came a fire spell into the air, to garner attention.
"People of the realm we mean you no harm, and you are free to return to your familes and homes. But those of you with the curiosity to stay, are welcome to hear my message. You work, and you suffer for those that regard you as little more than numbers in their ledger. You cower in fear of the unknown, of the darkness across the river. You need not rely on those with everything, to protect those with nothing. Why would they? They use you for fodder in their own ambition. We've come to offer you a choice. A choice of self-reliance, or status quo. We live among you, we will be watching."
With that, the long haired man stepped from the crowd.
The other mages had vanished throughout the speech, leaving the one to address them. None stopped him as he walked.
"Lupus non timet canem latrantem." Came the infernal tongue, as he motioned with his arms over the crowd. Some flinched, fearing a spell. None came. With that, he vanished in a flash of magic. Word would spread quickly of the gathering to the city. Whatever it meant, was up for debate for now. But the long haired mage would indeed be watching.
