The estate was small, a cozy home on a snowy hilltop, arctic pine trees dotting the premises and adding a touch of green to the landscape. Tulak couldn't help but feel the place familiar, though he couldn't put his finger on it. They entered the first room, a quaint living room, with a stone fireplace and wooden chairs. Tulak took the first seat he could find, eager to get off his feet and keep his world from spinning as Elion lit the fireplace with one deep, magical exhale of breath over the logs. Elion would stand, becoming immediately lost in a portrait over the fireplace. It was of a handsome young Elf, Elion, and a beautiful young human woman. Dark, long, chestnut hair, a red and black dress and a black hat, with a serene expression on her face. Elion explained to Tulak that it was his wife, and that he had lost her many, many years before. His voice swelled with sorrow as he spoke. The pair then spoke of Elion's vision, of Merca Undomer, Uwchfeistr, and Aeronwen Cadarn, recently appointed High Inquisitor. Tulak became suspicious of Elion's vision for only a fleeting moment before they decided, together, that Merca must be informed of the new information that had come to light. Elion teleported them once again, this time to the edge of the Elven Capitol. It was here, they were lucky enough to catch Merca Undomer on her way out of the city.

The three headed back to the keep, to a private meeting room where Elion asked Tulak to explain the news. He was in poor shape, but his sense of duty propelled him, and he explained to Merca that Elion's vision of Merca being felled in a duel had progressed further, and the other duellist was identified by Elion as Aeronwen. The old Elf was quick to laugh it off. "Now I know you're pulling my leg," she retorted with a fiery tone. "Apart from Aeronwen being one of my most trusted and loyal friends, do you really think she could defeat me in a duel? This is an outlandish accusation." Tulak continued to make his case, his head a swirling fog, as beside him Elion drifted away in thought, his eyes closed and his face grim. "So long as these visions are becoming clearer, it means we're getting closer to the event unfolding one way or another. I do not personally believe it to be Aeronwen in the vision, but that doesn't mean..." Tulak slowed as he tried to make sense of a feeling he had in his gut, a suspicion he couldn't shake. "It means that we're closer than ever to some kind of very real danger," he continued. "The only real lead we have is Elion, at this point, so I believe we should begin by questioning him."

Elion opened his eyes as he became the target of the conversation, Tulak staring at him for a long while. Tulak's thoughts were a blur, and he struggled to make sense of what he was feeling, but he pushed through. He remembered his experiences with Elion, from meeting him some time after arriving in Hynafiaid himself, chatting with him at his bar where he used many magics to run the establishment. Tulak recalled how Elion's bar was destroyed by bandits, the deed and much gold taken, though the Elf was left alive despite no clear reason as to why. Tulak's thoughts began to form into something more coherent as he pressed his mind further, recalling how Elion had called for Tulak to be Inquisitor, a position Elion seemed to loathe falling to Aeronwen. He recalled the night before, where Elion, lost in thought, used his magics to warp the room around him as he played piano, the colours and light seeming to center on a detailed painting of a snowy hill, with arctic pines dotting the landscape, and a cozy house perched on top. He remembered how Elion chose to not participate in celebrations and revelry the night before, but instead chose to sit on his own, scribbling in his journals. Finally, he couldn't shake the feeling any longer. Tulak looked to Elion, and his eyes narrowed as he asked one question. "Where were you just now?"

The question was met with a look of confusion by the Uwchfeistr and Elion, the latter of which would ask Tulak what he meant. "Where were you just now, when you had your eyes closed?" Tulak's face was flat as he spoke, trying to maintain his thoughts and his composure. Elion continued to evade, saying that he didn't understand. Merca also asked what the point of this was, though Tulak ignored her and pressed on, the feeling in his gut motivating him. "When you were playing piano yesterday, when you were on your own, scribbling in the corner, where did you go? It's the same place you went today, when you were lost in that portrait." Elion became defensive. "What business is it of yours that I get lost in my memories? What do you care that I get lost in my history and my tragedies?" Elion seemed angered by whatever Tulak was implying, the Uwchfeistr looking ever more confused as the conversation steamed forward. Tulak eased off, but still proceeded in his questioning. "Forgive me, friend, but your mind is the only lead we have. These visions of yours, they could be affected by any number of things. I know it to be important, where do you go when you close your eyes?" Elion's defensiveness rose, "I've brought this information to you, Tulak, and you in turn question /my/ mental health? I've done nothing but help in this matter, and it is no business of yours to question my mind! All that I see, I use it for the kingdom" Tulak's eyes narrowed on him, uttering only a single word. "Bullshit."

As Elion began to defend the truthfullness of his character, Merca stood from her seat in a sharp movement, slamming her hand onto the table, the two stopping their argument and looking to the Uwchfeistr. Her voice was commanding, her eyes fiery. "It is clear to me that at least one of you is lying to me right now, and I will have /both/ your heads on pikes decorating my keep if I don't begin hearing the truth." She looked to Elion, speaking with an accusatory tone. "'All that you see'?" she quoted Elion. "You mean all that you've spied . Speak the truth now, Elion, or lose your head." With that, Elion lowered his gaze to the table. His left eye began to spark outwards, Merca and Tulak both standing now, defensively. "If you want to know where I go, if you want to see what I see, I'll show you." Elion rose from his chair, his left eye missing, a glowing orb behind where it should be. A flash of magic filled the room, taking Merca and Tulak's minds into Elion's memory.

They were looking through a younger Elion's eyes at a room rather familiar to Tulak. It was the living room he had been in earlier that day, though the room was brightly lit, a beautiful woman standing in front of Elion with a lovely little girl. An immense feeling of dread set over them as the face of the woman turned, horror clear in her eyes. Figures could be seen moving past the windows outside, clad in green and crystal. The door burst open, and Elion was forced to watch as his bride and daughter were slaughtered in front of his eyes, all in one endless moment. He fell to his knees, his gaze lifting from the horror he had witnessed to an Iowerth insignia, soldiers swarming him as the memory faded.

Tulak fell to his knees as the vision ended, just as Elion already had, trying to catch his breath and compose himself. He could feel all of it, the pain, the horror, the coldness as the uncouncious aspects of his family's beings passing through his body like a conduit from this world to the Animus Mundi, the life stream. Tears filled his eyes as he heard Elion speak. "I watched the Iowerths kill my family in cold blood. I swore then that I would avenge them, that I would take revenge on the Iowerths and their entire family, all of their relations, in any way I could. After many years of travelling, many years of honing my skills and my magics, I came here, to Hynafiaid. I wanted to put an end to King Nolfinwe and his rule, but by the time I arrived, his reign had already ended, and an Undomer, an off-sect of the Iowerths, was now on the throne. I decided I'd stay, see if you would turn the land back to chaos, and then... you appointed the Inquisitor, a role I could never agree with. Maybe things could have been different if Tulak were appointed, but... that's why I purported that it was Aeronwen in my vision, killing the Uwchfeistr, when really it was... me...." Elion reached into his robes, pulling out two crystal daggers and tossing them to the floor. Tulak was at his side at this point, kneeling with a hand on Elion's shoulder. Merca was in tears, wiping them away as she regained her composure. Elion continued to speak "I wanted revenge. I want my family back. I want for a better world where the petty affairs of nobles don't ravage the lives of the innocent. I want justice." Another flash of light, and Tulak and Merca were shown Elion's vision as it truly would happen - not with Aeronwen, but with Elion standing over a dead Merca.

As the vision ended, Merca finally managed to find her voice, softer than usual, without it's usual fire and authority. "Elion, let me tell you my own story." She stepped to his side of the table as she spoke. "Over three hundred years ago, the Iowerths were just beginning their war against the rest of the eight Elven clans. Some sects of the Iowerth clan, such as the Undomer family, never agreed with the conquest, but few were foolish enough to speak out. Those who were so foolish to let a tongue slip in public were swiftly executed, but it seemed the Undomers as a whole would remain allies to the Iowerths." Her eyes welled as she spoke, her tone shaking. "It was a beautiful wedding, flowers and magical lights, beautiful crystal sculptures, and many guests. So deep was the Ileth bride's love for her one-and-only that Elves came from all across the province to attend. There were few guards, and the ceremony proceeded beautifully. It was an enchanted day..." Her face was grim, her gaze falling to the floor as she looked through tears. "The Iowerths had decided they could no longer trust the Undomers, and declared us treasonous. There was nothing I could do as I... as I watched my bride-to-be get ripped apart before my very eyes. There was nothing I could do but flee. I ran as fast as I could, I ran as long as my body would let me. The bastards didn't even come themselves to slaughter us... they sent mercenaries... but not like anything you'd imagine. They sent beasts, werewolves, to tear the guests asunder. I watched everything I knew in this world die before my eyes, and I was helpless." Merca regained her composure, standing tall, her face still sunken but not twisted. "I spent a lifetime learning the blade, learning to fight, so that I could prevent such atrocities in the future. This is my life now, Elion. I understand your pain, and... I can forgive your actions."

Tulak rose to his feet as Merca spoke, Elion remaining on his hands and knees, eyes to the floor. "So what happens now?" Elion asked the grizzled old Elf, awaiting his execution. She stepped forward, standing above him. The next thing he would see would be a gloved hand extended in front of him, waiting for him to take hold. Merca helped him to his feet, and helped him straighten out. She looked him in the eye as he asked again, "What happens now?" Merca would give him a gentle and warm smile. "We know each other now, Elion. Your confession means a great deal, and your story is... much like my own. I do not know you to be an enemy to me or my people, so if you can set this vendetta behind you, then I think we can move forward from here." Elion's mouth was agape as he looked for the words. "You really... I can just... go back to running my bar? It doesn't seem right, after all this."

Tulak stepped forward, swaying a little on his feet. He was exhausted from the day, and still drunk from earlier, feeling very weary. "First, as an Inquisitor, I must formally charge you with treason," he spoke as clearly as possible, with an air of authority. "All things considered, I think we can forego the death pen-" "Tulak!" He was interrupted by Merca. "Are you really going to testify that you performed this arrest while so drunk you can hardly stand?" Tulak stopped and thought for a moment. "I guess that settles it. You're free to go, Elion," he told him with a grin. Merca extended a hand for Elion to shake as she winked at him. When he took it, she pulled him in hard, clothes-lining him onto his back, the fire and authority returning to her face. "But don't you ever harbour such thoughts to me or my people again. You understand me?" She extended her hand yet again to help him back to his feet. Elion nodded and looked to both of them. "T-thank you. Merca. Tulak. I... I guess I'll see you guys at the bar." He left the room slowly, with another glance back to Tulak and the Uwchfeistr. Tulak excused himself as well, ready to sleep off the day. Merca was left alone to contemplate all that had just occurred. Tulak solving a mystery while drunk. Elion planning treason, and seemingly foiling himself by trusting too much in and growing too fond of his new companions. Herself, having shared an intimate and powerful memory of her own, wondered about just how this all could have gone if she hadn't followed Tulak's lead and forced a confession, if she'd really have ended up dead at Elion's feet. She decided it best to retire to her keep, and save the questions for another day.

Summary of the end of a small plot arc.
