One of Gielinor’s oldest surviving Noble Houses, dating to the beginning of the Fourth Age during the formation of the human kingdoms. House Aren has fallen in and out of the spotlight since its formation, ruling and losing the lands of Southern Kandarin, known today as Yanille. The house, since its inception, has also had great amounts of controversy surrounding it, ranging from treason to cold blooded murder, all the way to terrorism. While it may be difficult to prove these claims today, the stigma of the sins of their fathers follow every Aren even today. Though there seems not to be any truth to these rumors, a presence can be felt over all that was once within the grip of an Aren hand.

[• The Aren Family - A History •]

The following are excerpts from various volumes of Gregor O'Connor's 'Gileinor Historia' concerning the Aren family.

"At the dawn of the fourth age, a man by the name of Galethorn emerges from the Godwars, forging the House of Aren under Zamorak's banner, laying claim over present day Yanille."

"It is at this point the Aren rule over what was then known as 'Arenvale' collapsed, caused by what is only described as a major explosion under the settlement itself"

"Many of the houses and petty lords of the time war each other constantly and to no end in present day Kandarin, one conflict as a particular footnote being the Aren-Virenza war of the fourth age, which would be an on and off conflict, which lasted for most of the first half of the fourth age."

After the fall of the ancient Arens at the hands of the Virenza in the fourth age, Gregor does not mention the arens in his Historia until the Fifth Age.

"After the removal of Hazeel from power in Kandarin, many of the Zamorakian followers were too pushed out including what remained of the ancient family known as the Arens, which erupted in a violent conflict which lasted merely a week, though hundreds were reported dead."

The next mentions of the Arens are not until the attack on Ardougne's Soul, during the rule of King Oliver Cleeves of Kandarin.

"Coming to the aid of King Oliver of Kandarin, would be his newly appointed Archmage, Christopher Aren, who claimsto have experience dealing with the Souleating Lich. From one report, it was the ancient Arens of the Fourth age that originally sealed away the monster, knowing they could not destroy it."
