Why is this necessary again? In most instances, the in-game prices for most items can reasonably be considered to be realistic.

I ask because I have a more important question: does this system, which has been adamantly used by so few for so long, not place another hoop for newbies to jump through? Does it not thus contribute to the oft-bemoaned lack of fresh meat?

Tbh, this is actually a really good resource for people that want to use it . There's nothing saying that they have to use it, remember. It can be ignored.

Back in the day when RuneScape roleplay had a lot more members, companies like Avery Enterprises were around and Kingdoms used estate agents more frequently, roleplayers were more involved with how they spend their money. A lot of people thought that being able to see the general prices of things, and have a resource to help them with that, was a good thing.

Now, it's not that big of a deal. But for people that want to go more in depth with their roleplay, this is a good resource to help with that. :)

To be completely honest, the only reason I even thought to bump this thread last night was because a newbie was asking about the value of money in rp. He seemed to want an explanation that acknowledged that bread should be worth less than a forge-crafted sword. In fact, the whole reason I made the reference chart in the first place was because, at the time, the number of people roleplaying in Varrock who asked about the standard income of a character and the value of things like housing was outstanding.

*shrug*

I still like and enjoy this thread. It makes good references in terms of figuring out say, a Kingdom's economy, character wealth etc.

The trouble is that it causes a lot of unwanted confusion when two groups using different systems interact with each-other and can cause senseless conflict because they can't agree. The same goes for the Tibby system, the Mahjarrat division split theory and any theory along those lines.

That being said, this is a very logical and well-thought out reference table, though it does require adjustments in several areas such as the cost of armor. Much like race aging ratios, I think questions of money are best left vague because they are hard to agree on and not everyone follows the same ratios and rules.

I'm sorry, when were you ever relevant?

I'm apparently relevant enough for you to still be butthurt over things that happened years ago, for you to make a thread specifically to call me out, and for you to still be butthurt enough to childishly hurl insults my way at every opportunity.

Let's grow up, shall we? I've come of age a very long time ago and I'm too employed for this nonsense.

These are good answers. Thank you, you two.

I'd honestly say that trying to figure out the legitimate value of money in official canon is a more difficult hoop to jump through.

I mean, this is a world where party hats are worth literal tons of gold, whilst an entire city's treasury only had 160,000 gold (Lumbridge during BOL). Uh-huh.

Probably easier for a community to assign their own prices on everything instead of ramming your head against the wall in trying to comprehend how money works in Jagex canon. I mean, these are the brilliant folks who say that 10+ years of story was actually only 1 year in Gielinor. Don't expect them to have any sense with money.
Save yourself.
Savior self.
