Why is this necessary again? In most instances, the in-game prices for most items can reasonably be considered to be realistic.

I ask because I have a more important question: does this system, which has been adamantly used by so few for so long, not place another hoop for newbies to jump through? Does it not thus contribute to the oft-bemoaned lack of fresh meat?
